There’s a link in the comments to a podcast where I discuss why losing a dog can be harder than losing a person. When our dog Carter died suddenly at only two and a half years of age, I was aghast that his death was harder on me than losing my Dad—and he died suddenly at only 62 years of age. I’d love to read and share the article in The Atlantic, but it’s behind a paywall. Yet, I fully understand the author’s feelings.
