We will be closed this upcoming Monday, September 1st for Labor Day - aka a cat's favorite holiday! We will reopen Tuesday at 8:00 AM for our normal business hours. We hope you all enjoy the long weekend!

Today is National Dog Day, and we have quite the scandal on our hands. Dr. Elliot was recently caught on kiss cam with her dog, Phinney! We're not sure Dot appreciated it.

We pride ourselves on having cat-friendly exam rooms that do not have a lot of areas for cats to climb into and hide - which then prevents the stress of us having to pull them out of these hiding places! Every now and then, however, we have a clever cat like Patchy that finds the one spot in rooms that makes an excellent hidey hole. Luckily, Patchy was just having fun exploring and didn't mind coming back out for her exam!

Does your kitty have a prescription that you fill at either Bartell's or RiteAid?

Unfortunately, RiteAid and Bartell's are going out of business. Many locations are closing, have already closed, or are being converted to CVS pharmacies. If you currently have a prescription at one of these pharmacies, we recommend reaching out to that pharmacy ASAP to ensure your prescription can be transferred to the pharmacy of your choice. Don't wait until your cat is almost out of medication!

Happy Tongues Out Tuesday from Mugwort, who was here for a dental procedure last month! We make sure all of our dental patients have appropriate levels of pain medication on board before and after the procedure, which helps them feel good and groovy - just like Mugwort is here.

Sammy, like many determined cats, has a desire to escape the safety of his home, despite his family’s best efforts to keep him indoors. After one of his adventures, he came home limping on his front leg. His family brought him to us for care, and we assumed he probably got in a fight with another cat. But he couldn’t move or feel sensations with his leg, which was unexpected with a simple bite wound.

Much to our surprise, X-rays revealed that Sammy’s leg was broken: his humerus (bone of the upper “arm”) was shattered, and shrapnel from a lead pellet was embedded in his leg. He had been shot with an airgun.

Because of the extent of Sammy’s injuries, we recommended amputation of the leg as the best chance for Sammy to quickly recover. We covered the majority of the cost of Sammy’s surgery using donations to our St. Francis Fund, which is supported by contributions from Cats Exclusive and generous cat lovers.

While there are fewer regulations of the purchase of airguns compared to more dangerous fi****ms, it is illegal in Snohomish County to discharge any firearm at a person or a “person’s property,” which in this case would include Sammy.

Cats do not need four legs to enjoy their acrobatic mobility or to live a full and happy life. Sammy is thriving after surgery, and we are all grateful that he survived this injury.
