With the weather finally breaking we’re now making real progress on people’s nucs! The very first couple went out last night and it’ll be another 20 going out by this weekend.
The weather had us behind by about 10 days and normally by now there’s been about 80 out the door.

We did send out an email to everyone with an update, but I’m getting a lot of calls so I’m guessing a lot of you didn’t see it. Please check your spam. I’m going to resend it again later tonight.

But with the good weather, they’re growing pretty quick and we are making more every day to try to make up for the last two weeks to still hit our target to have everything out in the next five weeks, even the orders that came in just a few weeks ago.

Package and Nuc update.

So packages are still coming Tuesday April 8th. No exact time yet and we probably won’t know til the day before or the day of…but he’s usually here late morning to about noon.

As for nucs…Mother nature is giving us a late start. We couldnt get queens til just very recently and we’ve had ALOT of lingering cold days. This slows down everything. BUT…we’ve got almost 60 in the field already and making more every day we can. With the coming weather next week, where it looks cold and rainy, that will also probably delay things a little bit, but I expect that by the middle of April the first ones of them will start going out and we should be able to make really good time from there on out.

PACKAGE UPDATE!
So we are not the only ones to have a loooong winter that has been consistently cold. So has Georgia. Our pickup date of March 18th was one of the earliest available dates. We just got notice that we are STILL one of the first possible days for pickup BUT… Our date has been moved back.

Our packages are now arriving on APRIL 8th.

(We are consolidating our April 11th delivery day to that day as well so ALL packages will arrive Tuesday April 8th).

Unfortunately this was a decision made by Mother Nature and that’s how agriculture goes sometimes. If this is problematic for anyone please give us a call and we will work things out with you.

We will be emailing everyone very soon so the word gets out.

So this year we sold out of fondant quite early. We’re considering getting more and this post is to gauge interest.
So…if you (or you and friends) would be interested in a 50 # box comment below and say how many boxes.
If we get enough interest we’ll get more. Probably be $55 per box.

Our Nucs are made from our overwintered local hives with new Queens. Overwintered queens are available as well, by request. All Nucs will be made available for pickup in order of purchase date.

We want you to have the best start to the season as possible. All nucs are robust five full frame colonies, treated and state inspected, with a strong laying Queen, 3 brood frames, a frame of food and a mixed frame on average. We also warranty our queens. Any Nuc or Package that loses its queen in the first week will be replaced and we address any other issue on a case by case basis. Our packages arrive here the morning after being shaken so they are in your hives as quick as possible with the shortest shipping time.

West Virginia residents: Our nucs qualify for the Eastern Panhandle Conservation District's Nuc Reimbursement Program.

Our 2025 two-day class is planned to be held on:
January 11, 2025, 9:00 AM ET to 3:00 PM ET

January 18, 2025, 9:00 AM ET to 3:00 PM ET
(If one of these days is canceled, we'll hold class on January 25, 2025)

This two-day class will cover all the foundations of successful beekeeping from the basics of bee
biology to the in depth functioning of the hive. We will cover the history of beekeeping and their
role in our lives, necessary equipment, biology and hive dynamics, hive management strategies and
methods for maintaining hives that are healthy, strong, and productive. Join us to start a fascinating
journey into the world of the honeybee.
The course will be held at:

There is a nominal course enrollment fee. This fee includes a one-year membership in the
Washington County Beekeepers Association.
To accompany portions of the course, you may choose to bring a copy of the 5th edition of
Beekeeping for Dummies by Howland Blackiston (2020).
The book is available from Books-A-Million, Barnes & Noble, Amazon, and other sellers.
WCBA also recommends bringing a blank notebook to start your beekeeping journal.
Up to two members of the same household can attend under a single registration.

Had a very sweet surprise yesterday!
Unbeknownst to us we were nominated for the “Best of West Virginia Awards” for WV LIving Magazine, and we were awarded the Silver medal in the State. It’s weird how something that should make us feel proud instead fills us with the deepest feelings of gratitude, humility, and heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed. You all are so much sweeter than our honey. May you all be blessed this coming year.
