Hope Haven Farm Sanctuary

Hope Haven Farm Sanctuary My name is Karen Phillips, and I’m the founder of Hope Haven Farm Sanctuary. Each one of us has the power to make a difference.

Hope Haven Farm Sanctuary is a nonprofit animal sanctuary and rescue near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, that gives neglected and abused farm animals a safe, loving and lifelong home. 🐴🦙🐷🐐🐓🦃🐶🐈 Over 10 years ago now, I was working as a veterinarian at a busy animal shelter when a potbelly piglet was brought in as a stray. It broke my heart to see this innocent little animal, Isaac, who had been abandone

d by his owner and then “saved” at a shelter, now tremble and cower in the back of a cement stall, while an aggressive dog barked in the adjacent kennel. That was the day I committed myself to the goal of starting and running a farm animal sanctuary: a place where neglected and unwanted farm animals could feel safe and loved. Now, a decade later, Hope Haven does exactly that, providing a safe and loving forever home to a wide range of farm animals — from pigs, goats, chickens, ducks, geese and turkeys to horses, mini-donkeys, alpacas, emus and peacocks. (It’s definitely a lively crew!)

Creating and running this sanctuary has been the most difficult and most rewarding adventure of my life. It’s also taught me an invaluable lesson: that each of us has the power to create positivity and good in the world if we choose to do so. From the personal choices we make to the causes we support, each one of us has the ability to make life better for the farm animals that share our planet. If you feel moved to contribute to our work here at Hope Haven, we would be most grateful for your support. Rigby came to Hope Haven more than 10 years ago after the farmer who was raising him for meat fell on hard times, lost his farm, and needed to find homes for his animals.

What nobody could have known then was that this bronze-eyed little emu would become one of the heartbeats of the sanctuary.

Over the years, Rigby has been an entertainer, a comedian, a snack smuggler, a troublemaker, a teacher, and a friend to thousands of visitors. He has made people laugh, made people think, and helped countless guests see farm animals in a whole new way.

Simply put, Rigby IS Hope Haven.

What a wonderful afternoon! ☀️🐷🐾

A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by the Hope Haven table today and visited with me, farm dog Fig, Alexis, and Dawn. We had an absolutely fantastic time and are so grateful for all the support.

Special thanks to Kristy and everyone at Big Sewickley Creek Brewery for hosting this fun event and helping us raise AN INCREDIBLE $1,030 FOR THE ANIMALS!

The weather was perfect, the music by Kevin Latshaw was wonderful, and had so many beautiful pieces on display. I was even gifted these adorable piggy earrings, which I absolutely love! 🐷💕

Of course, we can’t forget our “Vote for Your Favorite Haven Animal” contest! The clear winner by a landslide was Achoo the farm hog. 🏆🐽
Twyla the alpaca proudly claimed second place, while Butters, the goats, Wynona the turkey, and Seymour the rooster were all pretty much tied for third. It was such a fun addition to an already amazing day!
Thanks everyone!!

Good morning! ☀️

Need your daily dose of cute? Joe Chip is here to help. Between the fluffy ear tufts, the perfectly trimmed bangs, and the little flower dangling from his mouth, we’re pretty sure he knows exactly how adorable he is. 💕🦙

If you’d like to support animals like Joe Chip, join us this afternoon at Big Sewickley Creek Brewery from 2–6 PM for our fundraiser! Enjoy games, food trucks, live music, and plenty of fun while helping provide lifelong care for rescued farm animals.

We hope to see you there! 🐷🐐🦙🐓❤️

We’re very much friends with the wildlife here at Hope Haven, but we do wish they would remember proper dining room etiquette requires calm and courteous behavior. This little red squirrel apparently came for the pigeon seed buffet but then forgot where the exit was!” 🐿️😂

Saturdays at Hope Haven ☀️🐾

While the humans rush around making coffee and tackling their to-do lists, the cats have a different strategy: find the comfiest seat, claim it, and nap in the morning sunshine.

Rigby and Sparrow were so excited about their fresh black raspberries yesterday! 🫐❤️

A huge thank you to our amazing volunteers, Tricia and Faith, who collect unused produce from Costco and deliver it to the sanctuary. The fruits and vegetables provide important nutrition, enrichment, and variety—and the animals absolutely love them!

These donations are important, but having reliable volunteers willing to do the hard work behind the scenes to make them happen is truly priceless.

Thank you, Tricia and Faith, for all you do for the animals of Hope Haven. We appreciate you more than words can say!

The boys are back! 🐓❤️

Our beloved rooster sculptures took quite a beating during last year’s storms, and we weren’t sure if they’d ever look the same again. Thankfully, board member came to the rescue!

Beth—who is not only an attorney and board member, but also the talented artist who created Cluckerberry Finn—admitted the roos to the Poultry Sculpture ER (also known as her garage), carefully repaired them, and returned them to the sanctuary yesterday.

We love the pop of color, personality, and whimsy they bring to our front gate, and we’re so happy to have them home where they belong.

Thank you, Beth (and Toni), for sharing your talents with Hope Haven and helping bring our boys back to life! 🐓🎨✨

🪺 Birds of a Feather: Connected by Kindness
🐑🦙🐦‍⬛

We are so excited to officially announce one of the most unique events we’ve ever hosted at Hope Haven!

Join us on Sunday, June 14th for a peaceful summer afternoon celebrating kindness toward both farm animals and local wildlife.

Guests will enjoy a guided sanctuary tour, a special presentation from local Naturalist and Environmental Educator, Jenni Ripepi, about native Pennsylvania songbirds, and a hands-on workshop creating natural bird nesting balls using grapevines gathered from the property and wool/fiber from our rescued sheep and alpacas annual shearing.

Crafting will take place outdoors amongst our free-roaming bantam chickens and, of course, Wyatt the turkey.

Guests will also have time to visit with the animals after the event and browse the Hope Haven gift shop.

⚠️ VERY limited to just 15 guests for an intimate experience.

🎟️ Tickets are $60 per person and all proceeds directly support the rescued animals of Hope Haven.

Tickets available here, in our bio, and in the comments: https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/ticketing/birds-of-a-feather-connected-by-kindness
