Piper has a story we’re so proud to share 💛🐾

For most of her life, vet visits were very scary. Before coming to Heart + Paw Washington Township, Piper wasn’t able to have an exam without full sedation. That kind of fear is more common than people think—and it’s something we take very seriously.

Over the past 6 months, Piper and her amazing mom, Sue, committed to changing that experience.

Piper came in regularly for “happy visits”—stopping by just to say hi, get treats, meet our team, and build positive associations. We also worked closely with Sue to find the right anti-anxiety support to help Piper feel safe and relaxed on her big day.

And when that day came… Piper was incredible ✨

She responded beautifully to her medication, allowed a full exam, and even received all of her vaccines—ALL WHILE AWAKE. This was a huge milestone and such a powerful reminder of what patience, consistency, and teamwork can do. Plus, it didn’t hurt to bribe her with a little cheese!

Fear, anxiety, and stress at the vet are real—but they are manageable. With the right approach, we can help pets feel safer and turn a scary experience into a positive one.

Sue, thank you for your dedication, trust, and the love you’ve poured into helping Piper succeed. We couldn’t have done this without you 💕

If your pet struggles with vet visits, you’re not alone—and we’re here to help every step of the way.

Harper stopped by for her annual exam, and she absolutely stole our hearts 💕🐾

She did amazing for her visit and got a full nose-to-tail check to make sure she’s staying happy and healthy. Even when pets seem perfectly fine at home, annual exams are so important—they help us catch small changes early before they become bigger concerns.

During annual visits, we:
🩺 Perform a thorough physical exam
💉 Keep vaccines up to date
🦷 Check dental health
🧪 Recommend routine screening as needed

Pets age faster than we do, so a lot can change in just a year. Staying on top of annual exams is one of the best ways to give them a long, healthy life by your side.

Harper’s family is doing an amazing job keeping her on track, and we’re so proud of her! Give your pet some extra love today—and don’t forget to schedule their annual if they’re due 🐶🐱💙

🦷✨ What We See During Your Pet’s Dental Cleaning ✨🦷

Dental disease is one of the most common health issues we see in dogs and cats. Even when teeth may look fairly clean on the surface, there can still be buildup hiding in places that are hard to see.

During dental procedures at our hospital, we use a special black light to examine the teeth. Under this light, tartar and calculus glow a bright fluorescent pink, making it easy for us to see exactly where plaque and buildup are hiding — even in small crevices or along the gumline.

The photos in this post show what we see during that process. The fluorescent pink areas highlight tartar/calculus that needs to be scaled away to help keep your pet’s mouth healthy.

Dental care isn’t just about fresh breath. Untreated dental disease can lead to pain, infection, tooth loss, and can even affect other organs in the body over time.

Regular dental exams, professional cleanings, and good at-home dental care all play an important role in keeping your pet comfortable and healthy. 🐶🐱

If you ever have questions about your pet’s dental health, our team is always happy to help!

🪥 Because a healthy mouth means a healthier pet.

🐾 First Visit for Pickles! 🐾

Pickles came in for his very first visit with us and let’s just say… he absolutely understood the assignment.

Not only was he a very good boy for his exam, but he also arrived in an adorable bunny suit and served us some truly bombastic side eye that had the whole team laughing. 🐰👀

Despite the sass, Pickles did amazing and handled his visit like a pro. We also want to give a huge shoutout to his mom, who is doing an excellent job staying on top of his preventative care. Keeping up with routine visits, vaccines, and monthly flea, tick, and heartworm prevention is one of the best ways to keep pups like Pickles happy and healthy.

We’re so excited to welcome Pickles to the family and we’re already looking forward to his next visit (and hopefully more iconic side eye). 🐶✨
