🧄🌱 Garlic Planting Season Is Here!
Did you know that a little preparation BEFORE planting your garlic can help give it a healthy start? Before my garlic cloves go into the ground, I give them a little TLC with a two-step soaking process!
🧄 Step 1: Sanitize!
I use hydrogen peroxide to help reduce surface bacteria and fungal spores that may be hanging out on my garlic cloves. Some gardeners use alcohol instead. This step can help reduce the risk of introducing certain pathogens into the garden, although it won't eliminate diseases hiding inside the cloves.
🌱 Step 2: Fertilizer Soak!
Next, I soak my garlic in a diluted fertilizer solution to give those cloves a little nutritional boost as they prepare to establish roots. This step is optional, but it's part of my pre-planting routine!
💚 Step 3: Time to Plant!
Garlic is a lesson in patience! We plant in the fall, allow roots to establish over winter, and look forward to harvesting those beautiful bulbs next summer!
Remember, healthy garlic starts with healthy planting cloves, good soil, and proper growing conditions. These extra steps are just part of how I prepare mine!

Now tell me…are you planting garlic this fall? And will you be trying these extra steps?*🧄👇🏽
*****One important tip: Hydrogen peroxide and alcohol are alternatives, not ingredients to mix together. Use an appropriately diluted solution, and don't combine either sanitizer with fertilizer. Rinse or drain according to the treatment instructions before moving to the next step.
