To educate on primates, particularly vervet monkeys, operate on charitable purposes and support the Vervet Monkey Foundation in their critical work to protect and prevent the extinction of these primates in South Africa. Vervet Monkey USA is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the Vervet Monkey Foundation, a cruelty-free, nonprofit, internationally accredited primate sanctuary that re
scues and rehabilitates injured and orphaned vervet monkeys. With the vast majority of South African land being privately owned, there is no safe place for the monkeys to inhabit. That is why the Vervet Monkey Foundation believes the creation of The Vervet Forest is is the answer. This forest will be a 1,200 acre nature reserve where the monkeys can be safely released, as well as protecting the already existing wildlife in that area. As a means of raising both funds and awareness for these monkeys and a final, more natural home to release them to, a documentary was filmed during the 2015-2016 baby season. "The Vervet Forest" follows the arrival and rehabilitation of 5 orphans and touches upon several of the factors putting these monkeys into sanctuaries, including the illegal pet trade, deforestation, and the highly unsustainable monoculture of South Africa. We created Vervet Monkey USA to work in collaboration with the film to bring awareness to the states. Now, as the US Events Coordinators for the VMF, we are taking to the road to spread the word as far as we can get it.
