Meeting our patients when they're wiggly little youngsters and getting to watch them grow into wonderful companions is such an honor and one of the highlights of being in the veterinary field. In just four years Buddy has gone from an adorable fluffball to a distinguised gentleman (albeit still adorable). We love being here for all the life stages of your family members, both two- and four-legged!

Wildlife officials are seeing more cases of canine distemper in coyotes and foxes nearby. This contagious virus can spread to unvaccinated dogs, but the good news is—it’s preventable!

✅ Keep your dog’s vaccines up to date (call us if you're unsure of your dog's vaccination status)
✅ Leash walks only—no roaming or sniffing wildlife
✅ Report sick wildlife to AZGFD, not animal control

If Kai gets lost, he's got no way to call home...but a microchip can help reunite him with his owner! Microchips are a quick, safe and permanent way to link your pet to you. Collars and tags can get lost, but a registered microchip is forever! Today is National Check the Chip Day: if your pet isn't chipped, call now to schedule an appointment to get it done, and if he is, make sure the registration information is current. Because a face like Kai's needs to be safe and sound at home!

Some people think because we live in the desert we don't have any heartworm here, and it's certainly true that they're not as endemic as in the South or East. But one of our patients tested positive just last week: unfortunately where there are mosquitoes there most certainly is the risk of heartworm. Talk to us about preventative options (did you know that your pet can now get an injection that protects for 12 months?) and we'll help you have one less thing to worry about.

We need your help! Last month we had a contest among the Applewood staff to see who could get the best picture of one of our patients (without disrupting the workflow too much 😉). Not easy to select these finalists from the more than 300 we had to choose from, but now we have to pick the BEST! Please give us your top three choices IN ORDER by 5 pm PST on Monday, 8/4.
