📣 Let’s talk about a question I hear all the time: “How long will it take to train my horse?”

The truth? ⬇️

🐴 30 days looks different for every horse.
Temperament, bloodlines, past training, age, and natural ability all play a role into what 30 days will look like for your horse.

🐴 A solid broke horse doesn’t happen in a month.
Training is a process and it takes time. A well broke, soilid horse will take time and you have to be willing to put the time in when it leaves.

🐴 Some horses need more time to undo what they’ve already learned wrong. Others take off quickly because of strong foundations.

Training is about the long game. If you’re thinking about sending your horse, know that giving them the right amount of time is the best gift you can give them and yourself.

🍂 Fall is coming and so is the best time to get your horse in training.

✅ Cooler temps = consistent work

✅ A solid foundation heading into spring

At Barefoot Farms, training spots are limited. Once they’re full, the next chance isn’t until spring because I don’t take on winter training. Consistency matters, and your horse deserves that.

🐴 Tip Tuesday: Knowing Your Tack

Riding isn’t just about time in the saddle it’s also about knowing the tools you’re using.

✅ If I ask you to shorten your reins or adjust your stirrup, do you know exactly what I mean?

✅ If your horse reacts differently one day, do you know how to check whether your tack is helping or hurting?

Understanding your tack is just as important as riding itself. At Barefoot Farms, we include unmounted lessons because a confident rider is one who knows how to check, adjust, and care for their equipment.

👉 Better tack knowledge = better communication with your trainer + your horse.

Horses feel us before they hear us.

Your emotions walk into the barn long before you clip on a lead rope.

A calm, confident attitude = a horse that relaxes and trusts you.
A tense, frustrated attitude = a horse that braces and shuts down.

I’ve watched horses completely ignore a rider melting down, their body tight, ears locked. They know when we’ve lost it and they stop listening.

👉 A good attitude doesn’t just change your ride. It shapes your horse’s progress, your barn community, and the people around you.

The barn should be a place where horses and people can breathe easy.

Been messing with the gorgeous girl for awhile now!! Updated Ad!

5 year old registered gypsy fell pony cross mare. Standing just under 14hh. Small but mighty and filling out great. Utd on shots, coggins, farrier, dental and deworming.

Lyla was started slow and correct this past spring. She has a solid wtc, back up and started on sidepassing. This girl is not spooky! She walks over or through anything you point her at. Shes carried tarps, flags, poles noodles, goes over ground poles, tarps, bags. Shes great out on the trails. She leads or follows. Goes down the road. Snap your finger and she sidepasses over to the mounting block to pick you up. I have jumped up on her ba****ck also. She stands still to be tacked up and takes a snaffle great. Shes got amazing breaks and plants that butt when asked to stop. She has a natural flying lead change when changing directions. She has some get up and go but will also come back down to you easily.

Om the ground lyla is easy peasy to handle. She will crosstie or single tie. She stands still for hours to be bathed, groomed and loved on. Just about anyone can handle her on the ground. She lunges on a line or free in the round pen. Stands great for the farrier and vet. Lyla can be stalled or turned out 24/7. She however is low on the pecking order. No bad habits. Never been lame or had any health issues.

Lyla is ready for her owner and ready to go any direction. She has a solid foundation.

🚗 Barn Courtesy Reminder

To help keep Barefoot Farms looking great and easy for everyone to navigate:
✅ Please park anywhere on the gravel
🚫 No parking on the grass

Parking on the gravel helps keep the grass healthy and the barn entrance clear for trailers, lesson students, and boarders. We live here and would like to keep it looking nice.

Thank you for helping us keep things safe, tidy, and welcoming for all our horses and riders! 💙💜

The work you dont see in the highlight reel but is just as important.

Grooming, bathing, fly spray, fence fixing, feeding, filling water buckets. All of this is part of the process and we have an amazing group of girls who have dived into the horse world and have been helping.

A well trained horse isn’t just a horse that can be ridden. It is a horse that can be handled safely on the ground.

If your horse needs the full package and not just saddle time reach out to see if we are the right fit!

Tip Tuesday

Why multiple riders matter!

Your horse shouldn’t only ride well for the trainer. In our program, student riders and helpers are a big part of the process.

1. Riding with different riders prepares horses for the real world.

2. The trainer isn’t the only one who will ever sit on your horse.

3. Exposure to different seats, hands, and stirrup length= adaptability.

4. The goal is a confident horse for you—not just for me.

Want a horse ready for any rider? Let’s talk about training.

FOR SALE!

5 year old registered Gypsy Vanner Fell pony cross mare standing 13.3 hh and filling out.

Lyla had 90 days of professional training this spring. She was started slow and correct. Under saddle Lyla has a solid wtc and back up. She has great breaks. She will go over anything you point at and is not spooky. She has been trail rode, arena rode, gone down the road. Been ridden alone and with others.

Lyla is quiet, calm and good minded. She goes over tarps, carriers tarps isnt spooky at all. One snap of the finger and she picks you up at the mounting block. She stands all day for grooming and baths. Picks up all her feet with ease. Is great for the farrier and vet. She hopes right into the trailer. Lyla lunges on a line or free in a round pen. She also ground drives. She can be stalled or turned out 24/7. She is bottom of the pecking order.

Lyla is safe for just about anyone on the ground. However she is still green under saddle and could use some finishing. However no buck, bolt or rear. She does have a solid foundation and could go any direction. She is being rode and worked consistently while here on consignment.
