FYI - OUR OFFICE WILL BE CLOSED ON FRIDAY, JULY 4th - please contact our office early if you need medication refills or specialty diet food.

July 4th 🇺🇸 and FIREWORKS 🎆are very stressful for your pets. To help reduce a pet’s stress and anxiety from the noise, there are a variety of medications and supplements that can help. Owners should CONTACT OUR OFFICE EARLY to determine which is best as every pet and situation is different. More pets run away due to fireworks than for any other reason, according to PetAmberAlert there is a 30% increase in lost pets each year between July 4 and 6. Other helpful tips for pets with anxiety include:
• Walk your pet during daylight hours to avoid times when fireworks are likely to be set off
• Close windows and curtains to muffle the sound of fireworks
• Put on some music or tv to mask the firework sounds
• Create a quiet space where your pet can feel in control
• Create some hiding places around your home
• Make sure your pet has a collar, ID tag or microchip in the event that they may try to run away

Our team participated in the Stomp Out Stigma walk last Saturday, May 17th. A big THANK YOU to all who generously donated to our team. It wasn’t ideal weather for the walk — cold, windy and rainy, but we had fun while raising money and awareness for a great cause. The Stomp Out Stigma walk fuels the life-changing work of the Mental Health Foundation of West Michigan and it’s be nice. program, empowering individuals to recognize and take action when it comes to mental health. You can learn more about the Mental Health Foundation’s work to reduce stigma and save lives at www.benice.org.

The staff at Schoolcraft Veterinary Clinic is participating in the 23rd Annual Be Nice Stomp Out Stigma Walk for Mental Health on May 17, 2025. We are lacing up for this event to help raise awareness, spark conversations and show our commitment to a healthier, happier community. Veterinary professionals face significant mental health challenges, including high rates of burnout, compassion fatigue and even suicidal ideation. Our team goal is to help transform the status of mental wellness in our professional (and personal) lives so that we can survive and thrive through education, resources and support. Please consider joining our team or donating to this great cause by clicking the link below (or you can click on the Be Nice Stop Out Stigma picture below and you will be directed to our team fundraising page). THANK YOU for your support!! 🐶🐾🐱

Did you know that February is National Pet Dental Health Month? Keeping up on your pet’s dental hygiene is just as important as keeping up on your own. According to the American Veterinary Dental Society, 70% of cats and 80% of dogs suffer from gum and dental disease by the time they are 3 years old. Annual dental cleanings are the most proactive way to keep your pets’ pearly whites healthy and disease free.

Signs and symptoms to look out for that could indicate your pet is suffering from dental disease can include things such as bad breath, broken or loose teeth, discolored or tartar covered teeth, abnormal or painful chewing, excessive drooling, reduced appetite, oral bleeding, and swelling of the mouth and face.

Early detection of these symptoms is critical because advanced periodontal disease can ultimately lead to severe problems and pain for your pet. Prolonged dental disease can lead to systemic health issues in both cats and dogs requiring lifelong treatments. Oral health is directly linked to a pet’s longevity. Call us today at 269-679-5248 to schedule your pet's dental examination and learn more about how we can assist you in keeping their teeth in top condition.
