Kona and I are similar in the way where it may not be our initial instinct to fight or flight . Often we may need a minute to just consider , and put the pieces together ; often looking exactly like freeze .

Whether the reward is a toy/treat , praise/pet or a meal .
The currency means Nil when the message isn’t clearly received .

On our journey to “drop it” … let’s see if focusing on our steps to arrive soundly , where we’ve already been.. can be emulated via repititon/belief and clear body language !

I bet you thought I was going to give you an exact strategy that will make your dog heel overnight ! Absolutely not .

All we need is a safe space, a dog that eats , a good attitude and a willingness to learn . Please understand that despite what we know about our furry friends , this dog is new or learning something new in this world.

As with humans when doing something new or something uncomfortable, we get a dopamine release ; a fire of the neurons or maybe a new neurological pathway altogether (depending on when (age) , how (method) and if said experience is a positive or negative) . Remember what we allow is what we reinforce .

It amazes me how long i worked with dogs before i realized the value in play / movement !

Not only for my character ; but my mind body connection . Nothing fancy ! Some owners only have the 2 times a day to engage their pup. Let’s control what we can and make sure we move and have something of value . It’s not necessarily about the reward in comparison to the one bringing value to the reward . Being payed by a job we LOVE vs payment from a job we only work to survive .
