Day 21 - Working with Bess has been a lotta fun and I’m excited to be involved in her growth with her family.

Due to scheduling constraints, we will be doing their transfer lesson real soon! They are ahead of the game as Toby has already been through program.

Toby is post program and NOT social with dogs. He is here day boarding so I’m reintroducing him with Bess, they live together and Bess is newly adopted.

Training you includes reading dogs well. Here is a few sniblets of one of their outdoor breaks together.

Reading dogs means, in the moment without human thought with intention. It’s observing what’s right in front of you in that moment without labeling.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲 𝐡𝐚𝐬 𝐋𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐚𝐲

Somewhere along the way the dog training industry traded its purpose for ego.

Education is now arguments about whose method is right, personal attacks, and people seem to enjoy tearing down another trainer at the expense of their business.

What happened to dog training? Since when is proving someone else’s accountability more video worthy than showing your own?

I am glad that here, we network. We train together. We learn from each other. A canine collective built on support, shared knowledge and we commit to doing better for the struggling owners.

To the industry, grow up. Show your work, results and help your clients succeed.

That purpose deserves more attention than ego.

My work involves helping people enjoy life with their dogs. And I make sure to set aside time to slow down and enjoy mine.

Today was for Vada. Lots of cuddles, a well deserved trip to her favorite park with her favorite people and dogs. Just me and my special Chow Chow, enjoying a few hours on a beautiful Saturday.

Never lose sight of what it means to have an amazing companion dog. I don’t care about a perfect dog, just the perfect dog for me. I love you Vada 🩷

OFF-LEASH DOG OWNERS: A LITTLE REMINDER!

If you enjoy hiking, exploring, or spending time outdoors with your dog off-leash, a GPS tracking collar is one of those investments that can bring some serious peace of mind.

Even the most reliable dogs are still dogs. Wildlife, unexpected noises, or something completely out of the ordinary can happen in seconds.

Collars like Fi and Tractive allow you to track your dog’s location through an app on your phone.

AirTags can absolutely be helpful, and they’re generally cheaper! But there’s a BIG difference between an AirTag and a dedicated GPS collar.

AirTags are Bluetooth-based item trackers. They rely on nearby Apple devices participating in the Find My network to report their location.

That means:

They don’t have their own GPS or cellular connection.
If your dog disappears deep into the woods where there are no nearby Apple devices, you may not receive an updated location.
Location updates aren’t necessarily real-time.
They’re designed for locating belongings, not specifically for tracking pets.

An AirTag might work great if your dog wanders into a populated neighborhood. But if your dog takes off into hundreds of acres of woods? That’s a very different situation.

If you’re regularly enjoying off-leash adventures, invest in a dedicated GPS collar. It’s an extra expense, but the peace of mind is worth considering.

We own 6 fi collars and any dogs in our care wear one.

And remember, GPS is a backup safety tool, NOT a replacement for reliable recall, proper training, or responsible off-leash decisions. GPS collars also depend on battery life, satellite reception, and cellular coverage, so they aren’t foolproof either.

Give your dog freedom, but have a plan for when things don’t go as expected.

A reliable dog can be given more supervised FREEDOM to actually BE A DOG, free to run and romp.

That’s the end result.

Are board and train programs more expensive? Yes. Because we spend so much time building that foundation for you, and then WITH YOU, then FOR LIFE.
