Happy 4th of July from Spotted Snout 🇺🇸🐾

While we’re all celebrating tonight, fireworks can feel really scary and overwhelming for many dogs. A little planning goes a long way in keeping them safe and comfortable.

Here are a few simple ways to help your pup tonight:
Keep dogs indoors well before fireworks start
Close windows, blinds, and curtains to soften sound and flashes
Turn on white noise, TV, or music for background sound
Create a safe “den” space with their bed, crate, or favorite blankets
Make sure collars and ID tags are on in case of escape
Consider a long-lasting chew or enrichment toy to help them settle
Stay calm yourself, your energy helps set the tone for them

Most importantly, don’t force them to “face their fears” tonight. Comfort is the goal.

“My training space is located at 419B Westside Ave Schenectady NY 12306

I designed my classes to be drop-in classes as I know that life can get in the way and I still want to be able to provide a space for people to come to dog training classes without having to commit to weeks on end. But I make sure every class is a little bit different so that if you want to attend multiple weeks on end you definitely can! I try to tailor each class to the dogs in it as well!

All of my classes have a cap of four or five dogs to keep it small so that we can really work around each other in a more controlled environment.

I have a few different class options like my Tricks, Games & Foundational Skills and Puppy Skills class!
In the Tricks, Games & Foundational Skills class we mostly work on a lot of foundational skills, but we also apply it into “real world scenarios”. Last class we did a pretend shopping day where you had to practice getting a bag from a human, walking past the other dogs, and then going up to the table and “going shopping”. So we like to have fun some fun too!

In Puppy Skills we work on the core foundational skills all puppies should know as well as end on a little bit of playtime and socialization. This class focuses on the basics of leash walking, people greetings, but also things like exposing puppies to different textures and sounds to really enhance their socialization experience.

But most importantly, the biggest idea of each class is to get the dogs working around each other and other distractions.”
