✨Pet of the Week: Happy Don!✨

Hoots is starting his morning the best way possible — soaking up some Vitamin D and enjoying the sunshine! 🌞 This handsome guy is one-half of a dynamic duo — two rescues who have bonded so beautifully that they act like a sweet little married couple.

According to their loving owner Anita, they’re both incredibly friendly, love meeting new people, and are happiest when curled up on her lap. They truly are the best companions anyone could ask for!

Happy Don also has a special place in our hearts here at the clinic — especially with our nurse Ella, who absolutely adores him! 💜 She lights up whenever he comes in and always tries to spend as much time with him as possible (we can’t blame her — just look at that face!).

We’re so lucky to know such wonderful pets and their amazing humans. Here’s to Happy Don and his best buddy — bringing sunshine and smiles wherever they go! ☀️🐾

How Cats See the World: Fascinating Facts About Feline Vision 🐱

Cats have dichromatic vision, meaning they see colors differently than humans. Blues and greens stand out, while reds, pinks, and oranges appear muted — more like grays or browns. Their color perception is similar to a human with red-green color blindness, giving their world a subtler, less vibrant palette.

Key Facts About Cat Color Vision:
🔵 Limited Color Spectrum: Fewer cone cells than humans limit the range of colors they can see.
🟢 Best Colors: Blues and greens are easiest for them to distinguish.
🟠 Muted Reds & Oranges: Reds, oranges, and pinks appear dull, grayish, or brown.
🟣 Purple Perception: Purple may look like a shade of blue.
🌙 Excellent Low-Light Vision: More rod cells give superior night vision and motion detection.
👀 Wider Field of View: Cats see about 200° around them, helping spot movement.
⚡ Motion Detection: Extremely sensitive to movement — perfect for hunting.

Even though the weather’s cooling down, mosquitoes are still active — and that means your pet is still at risk for heartworm disease.

Mosquitoes can carry heartworm larvae, which infect pets through a single bite. Once inside, the worms grow and live in the heart, lungs, and blood vessels, causing lasting and sometimes life-threatening damage.

🐶 Dogs may show signs like coughing, tiredness, or weight loss.
🐱 Cats can be harder to diagnose — even a few worms can cause serious breathing issues or sudden illness.

Ever wonder what the world looks like through your dog’s eyes? 👀

Dogs don’t see all the same colors we do. While humans have trichromatic vision (we see red, green, and blue), dogs have dichromatic vision, meaning they mainly see shades of blue and yellow.

🔵🟡 Blue & Yellow: Bright and clear for dogs.
🔴🟢Reds & Greens: These don’t pop—dogs see them as muted browns, grays, or blacks.
⚫️Contrast & Night Vision: Thanks to extra rod cells in their eyes, dogs see better than us in dim light and pick up contrasts more easily.

What this means for you as a pet parent:

✔️ Pick toys in blue or yellow so your pup can find them faster and enjoy playtime more.
✔️ Use these colors in training cues—they’ll stand out better in your dog’s vision.

🎉 Happy 12th Birthday to our favorite Sith Lord, Vader! 🎉

The dark side has never been this adorable—or this spoiled! Turning 12, Vader still rules the galaxy of our hearts with his love for food, toys, adventures outside, and cuddles on the bed. Whether he’s playing with daddy, supervising the household, or demanding extra treats, he does it all with Sith-level confidence.

His mom is officially losing it (in the happiest way possible!) because Vader has brought so much joy, laughter, and love into her life. Every day with him is a reminder that the Force is strong… especially when it comes to stealing hearts and snacks. 🍖💖

From being the best boy anyone could ever ask for to showing off his spoiled, mischievous side, Vader proves that even Sith Lords need a little cuddling and pampering now and then.

And meet June! This sweet kitten was recently rescued and came in for her booster vaccines. She melted all our hearts (and maybe tried to climb a few shoulders too). 🐱
