💙🐾 **Levi's Journey Continues** 🐾💙

Levi, our 9-month-old Golden Retriever, is making incredible progress as he prepares for his future role as a **Ministry Dog at Holy Cross Church in Indiana**.

Since joining the Dawgs at Work program, Levi has consistently impressed our training team with his intelligence, eagerness to learn, and gentle nature. He has been working hard to develop the skills needed to serve others through Holy Cross Church's dog ministry program, where he will help provide comfort, connection, and support to members of the congregation and community.

Every week, Levi continues to build upon his obedience, public access skills, confidence, and real-world experiences. His dedication and growth have made him a joy to work with, and we couldn't be more proud of how far he has come.

🎓 Levi is currently on track to graduate toward the end of this year and begin the next chapter of his journey serving alongside Holy Cross Church.

We look forward to watching the impact he will make and the lives he will touch through his ministry work.

Way to go, Levi! We can't wait to see what your future holds.

Partner Spotlight: Doggit & Dawgs at Work

We believe that strong training programs start with strong partnerships, and one of those partnerships is with Doggit. Doggit helps connect families with ethically sourced puppies from responsible, vetted breeders, supporting transparency and higher standards in the early stages of a dog’s life. Their focus on responsible sourcing aligns with our commitment to setting dogs up for success from day one, both in health and temperament. When puppies come from thoughtful, well-managed breeding programs, it makes a meaningful difference in long term development, training potential, and overall wellbeing.

Pairing that foundation with structured training, social exposure, and enrichment gives each dog the best possible start. We are proud to work alongside Doggit in supporting families who are looking for a responsible path into dog ownership, with a focus on care, clarity, and long term success. If you’re considering adding a puppy to your family, starting with the right source matters.

Thinker Thursday

Physical exercise is important, but mental exercise matters too. Mental stimulation helps dogs build confidence, practice problem solving skills, reduce boredom, and engage natural behaviors in healthy ways. Puzzle toys, treat dispensing toys, snuffle mats, beginner scent games, food puzzles, hide and seek, and simple thinking exercises can challenge your dog’s brain in ways that physical activity alone cannot. Just a few minutes of focused mental work can leave many dogs feeling satisfied and fulfilled. A tired dog is not always a dog that ran the farthest. Sometimes it is the dog that spent time thinking.

Dog Sports Spotlight: Scent Work

One of the most natural and rewarding dog sports is scent work. Scent work taps into a dog’s strongest sense, their nose, and turns it into a structured, purposeful activity. Dogs are trained to locate specific scents and indicate when they’ve found them, whether in boxes, rooms, outdoor environments, or more complex search settings as they progress. What makes scent work so powerful is that it builds confidence, focus, and problem solving skills while also providing mental enrichment that is deeply satisfying for dogs.

It is accessible to nearly all breeds, ages, and energy levels, making it an excellent outlet for both high drive dogs and dogs who may not thrive in more physically demanding sports. Beyond sport, scent work can also improve engagement, impulse control, and handler communication, which often carries over into everyday training and real world behavior. At Dawgs at Work, we love scent work because it honors what dogs are naturally built to do while strengthening the human–dog relationship in a meaningful way.

Wellness Wednesday

Movement matters, but more is not always better. Exercise should match your dog’s age, breed, health, and individual needs. A young growing puppy has very different physical needs than an adult working dog or senior companion. Too much repetitive impact, intense activity, or exercise that exceeds your dog’s conditioning level can place unnecessary stress on growing joints and muscles. Pay attention to recovery too. Soreness, excessive fatigue, reluctance to move, lagging behind, or changes in behavior after activity can all be signs your dog may need more rest or a different exercise plan. Fitness is not about pushing harder. It is about creating a healthy balance that keeps dogs feeling strong and comfortable for the long run.
