Meet Kash (aka everyone’s favorite gremlin). This Mohawk-sporting shaggy boy came to us when his owners were moving and he was not able to go too. Kash is just over a year old and has the energy to prove it! He LOVES a good walk, run, or fetch session in the yard. Given his small stature he has not done playgroups at our kennel with the big pups, but when meeting other dogs at events or on walks he has done well. Kash loves to be with his people and may even crawl into your lap for some extra up close and personal attention. His ideal home would be one where he is not left alone a ton as he is used to being with his family. This sweet nugget is looking for a foster or forever home 🐾

💕 One of our long-timers in our program, Guerro, is need of some help. After spending years at our kennel waiting for a home, he finally landed a foster (pictured with his foster mom). After undergoing surgery to remove some tumors, one came back as squamous cell carcinoma. Guerro is already undergoing oral cancer treatment (after tests showed that thankfully the cancer had not metastasized) and will regular visits and lbs done with his oncologist. This sweet boy waited so long for a loving home and now that he finally has one we are hoping to keep him comfortable and healthy for as long as possible. It’s our favorite day of the year… but at CARL, every day is National Dog Day. 🐾

Rescue dogs are at the center of everything we do. They’re the reason our volunteers show up, why fosters open their homes, and why our team works tirelessly to keep the mission going.

Here are just a few of the sweet faces at our kennel still looking for foster and forever homes. Helping them find their people is what it’s all about.

Nandor needs a new home due to his current owner's work schedule. Here's some information about this relaxed 8-9-year-old pittie mix from his current owner.

"Nandor is a dog who really loves being around his people. He loves to get out every day, but it’s more about sniffing than really needing to burn energy.

Nandor loves to lie in the sun and then chill in the shade. He can catch food pretty consistently, but the tennis ball not so much. His routine with the rope or ball from the toy box when you come home is hysterical. Food is his driver, and he will sit and drool until I tell him it’s ok to have his bowl every time. Nandor's incredibly mindful about everything, and just a super chill dog. I only wish I were in a position to be able to be home around him more. The difference between where he was in the shelter to now is night and day. I’m attached to him, but I’m also about quality of life, and I know the right person who appreciates a senior dog could give him even more than I can."

A huge thank you to Conaway Ice for donating 256 pounds of ice for our dogs today. Every pup got to enjoy nice cool refreshing water to help them beat the heat.

Staff had a chance to cool off a bit too 🥰.

August 24th is the day for the 25th Annual Pooch Parade!

In addition to having some of our adoptable dogs at the event held at scenic Ventura Harbor Village, we'll be welcoming emcee Ken Vela, main sponsor Cumulus Media and dog demonstrations and hosting contests with prizes, a silent auction and a variety of vendors. The main activity, the Parade, starts at 11:30 am.

A big thank you to Antelope Pets for the recent gift to C.A.R.L.!

Antelope recently donated several boxes of treats for our pups. Adoptable dogs such as Daisy (pictured) and others will enjoy healthy dental chews and other tasty goodies thanks to Antelope's generosity.

At this Sunday's Pooch Parade, we look forward to welcoming dogs from Disc Dogs along with pups from the Search Dog Foundation. Attendees will see Disc Dogs catch frisbees, and they can also participate in a silent auction and the main event - the Pooch Parade!

Come and join us this event from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Ventura Harbor Village for a howling good time and wear your western attire in accordance with this year's Pooch Parade theme "Rescue Roundup." It's less than a week until we host the 25th Annual Pooch Parade at Ventura Harbor Village! We're looking forward to a a fun-filled day with dogs, canine-centered activities and vendor booths this Sunday, August 24.

Today we're putting the spotlight on the Pooch Parade's lead sponsor Cumulus Media. The Ventura-based broadcaster owns several radio stations, including 95.1 KBBY, 100.7 KHAY, 103.3 and Groovy 106.3. We're grateful for their support again this year in promoting this event on these radio stations.
