We’re counting down to Sunday and we really hope you’ll come meet Sadie and hear how a foster saved her life.

Sadie is a large two year old girl pulled from a local shelter who called a border collie mix - though her puppies’ DNA came back Shepherd/ Pyrenees - her past is a bit of a mystery.

What isn’t a mystery is what saved her life: a foster who said yes. When Sadie was running out of time, a CARL foster stepped up and brought her home. That decision gave her the space to heal from medical conditions she was dealing with, decompress from shelter life, and just be a dog while she waits for her forever family.

That’s fostering. That’s what Sunday is all about.

Come meet Sadie and hear her story at our Foster Curious event, June 28th from 2 to 5pm at T**a T**a Brewing, 104 E Thompson Blvd in Ventura

La Brea is a fun-size Shar Pei mix who needed a new home when her owner’s landlord stepped in. She did nothing wrong. She just needs a fresh start.

She is initially shy with new people but warms up quickly and becomes wonderfully clingy once she feels comfortable. She is full of energy, loves being outside, walks well on leash, and knows sit, down and place. She has done well with dogs in our kennel playgroups and is reportedly good with older children. The only caveat: she is a natural explorer, so a secure yard and attentive door etiquette are a must.

If you have room in your home and your heart for a dog who will eventually follow you everywhere, we would love to introduce you to La Brea. Visit our website to apply.

Iris made it through surgery, and she has feelings about the recovery process

This spunky girl broke both bones in her front right leg last week after trying to leap out of her x-pen to join her foster playmates — because missing out was simply not an option for her. She’s home now, resting in the best foster care. She is doing well, but deeply unimpressed with the whole situation.

Iris’s medical bills emergency care, surgery, and post-op rehab total $9,244.20. If you can help us chip away at that, we’d be so grateful. Every bit goes straight to this girl getting back to her best playful self.

We are so grateful for our community! A couple weeks ago we were invited back to one of our favorite annual events - Ranch Day! Big thank you to Tina (owner of Aloha Dog Grooming and creator of Ranch Day) for putting on this event, inviting us all to her home, her extremely generous donations and continued support year round!

Events like this are incredibly important for us. Not only do our dogs get exposure to people, children and other animals, but we are able to have quality face-to-face time with the community and talk about what we do. Extending and improving our outreach is an ongoing effort and thanks to we are able to do just that!

Stay tuned for more fun events this summer and learn about

Ketchup has a whole personality and he’d like you to know about it. Zoomies with toys, chaos in playgroup, and then fully horizontal on a volunteer’s lap — sometimes within the same ten minutes.

His foster family called him polite, sweet, and genuinely easy to have around. He lounged on the couch, sat by the door when he needed out, and never once begged at the dinner table. He’s got manners. He also has zoomies.

He’d do best somewhere calm and carpeted, he’s not used to being in a home so he needs people who will let him settle in at his own pace. Give him that and he’ll repay you in loyalty and couch cuddles for the rest of his days.

Applications are open at the link in the comments below. Go meet Ketchup.

We’re partnering with Pedigree Foundation’s Foster 50 program to get more dogs out of shelters and into loving homes this summer, and we need your help to make it happen.

Foster 50 is a national initiative backed by some of the biggest names in animal welfare, and CARL is proud to be part of it. Did you know dogs who experience foster care are 14 times more likely to be adopted? Your home, even temporarily, genuinely changes the outcome for a dog waiting on their forever family.

Come talk to us about what fostering actually looks like. Our Foster Curious event is Sunday, June 28th from 2 to 5pm at T**a T**a Brewing, 104 E Thompson Blvd in Ventura. Our foster leads will be there to answer every question and help match you to the right dog.

He’s not wrong. There’s something about a dog that just resets everything – the way they greet you, the way they move through the world like every moment is worth getting excited about. Our dogs have that in spades. Every single one of them. We’re so lucky to get to know them, and we’re even luckier when they find the people who get to keep them.

He’s not for everyone. He knows it. And honestly? That’s kind of the point.

Leo is 8 years old and been through a lot. He needs someone patient. He has a very short list of people and getting on it takes time. But once you’re on it? You’re on it. He’s not a velcro dog, he’s not a lap dog but he’s yours. In the quiet, steady way that certain people find more meaningful than anything else.

Good with dogs and cats. Strangers not so much.

We’re asking for kennel visits before adoption. Meet him on his terms, prove you’re dedicated to being on his side and give him time to decide you’re one of the good ones.

If that sounds exciting rather than exhausting, we should talk.
