New puppy training programs launching in November! It’s about time I brought the puppy specific programs back 🤗

Fear of the inevitable is my alarm clock

10/21/2026

I wasn’t planning to talk about this but it’s been so frustrating lately.

As your dog trainer, I want to help you. I want you and your dogs to do so well and succeed. My goal for you is that you do so well I never hear from you again, even though I’d love to.

When I tell you we need to train your dogs individually first, I’m not trying to extend our time together or take your money. I’m telling you because it’s what needs to be done for you to reach your goals, and honestly it will result in you being in lessons for a much shorter time because you’ll actually reach those goals instead of struggling indefinitely.

And also, I don’t care how much your dogs like each other. They already only get a portion of our time and energy, only doing things with them as a group robs them of the special time they get with you.

I said what I said.

Even IF your dog really isn’t treat motivated…. Who said treats are the only way to train a dog?

Reinforcement can be literally anything your dog likes. Play, toys, affection, the freedom to sniff the grass, getting excited and doing 20 seconds of being silly with you…. You know your dog better than anyone. You know what they like. Be creative, it’s more fun that way anyway.

I can confidently say most of the pet homes that hire me have a dog who struggles with being impulsive as the root cause of their behavior concerns… and it’s actually an easy thing to fix if you focus on the little things first.
