Humans tend to humanize their dogs, which can be so detrimental to them. Dogs are den animals naturally and crate training is sooo important so they have their own confined space to feel safe. When dogs are given too much freedom it can be overwhelming, especially dogs that may not be very confident. Too much space creates environmental pressure to the dog and they feel uncomfortable, especially when their owners are not around them. Our dogs are always looking to us for direction, comfort and clear communication. When we are not around to provide those things, this is when dogs can become insecure, anxious and destructive when given too much freedom. Putting your dog in a crate so they can turn off their little brains and recharge is so important for them. Dogs also need much more sleep than humans do, the average adult dog needs 12-16 hours of sleep in a day. Puppies need even more 18-20 hours a day and senior dogs over 7 about the same sleep as a puppy. When dogs can’t settle and turn off their brains for adequate rest it can affect their behavior dramatically. Every dog should be crate trained and have their own space. It’s like a child having a bedroom, they need to have their own place to go and rest. You ever hear your dog bark or whine non stop when separated from you if they’re loose in the house? Too much overwhelming space and no confinement to be able to rest properly. Crating your dog can also help with separation anxiety by giving your dog that space they feel safe in alone.

Imagine calling yourself a dog trainer and kicking a dog out of class because they’re too difficult for you to work with.

And then also telling that same client that the actual solutions to the problem will make things worse…(aka correcting unwanted behavior and teaching a dog boundaries)

This is SO common. We hear stories like this every day and it’s really just so sad. This is why we’re so loud and outspoken about the industry and all the scams happening out there.

Basic obedience class will not resolve behavioral issues. And “behaviorists” will just tell you to medicate your dog after you pay them $800 for an essay on WHY your dog is behaving in such a way…

How is any of this in the best interest for the dog or the owner?

Lex will be coming into heat next month and we will be breeding her one more time and using Larry. Puppies will be due January/February and ready to go March/April. As of right now we have a few deposits and are taking a few more. Lex is fully health tested passing OFA and clear DNA for genetic diseases. Lex has her National cert as a gun dog as well as PP trained. Larry is also fully health tested and clear for everything as well as imprinted on narcotics and has a great nose and natural calm drive to search. This is a repeat breeding that has been done in the past twice and they have had multiple dual purpose offspring in LE as well as PP, service work, detection, active companions and even dual purpose detection/ school comfort dogs. These two make some really great puppies very stable and sounds with solid drives and nerve. If you are interested in a puppy please message us for more details on how to get on this list. We are expecting Malinois and Dutchies as they’ve produced both in the past.
