๐ŸŒก๏ธ๐Ÿพ A Friendly Reminder: Never Leave Your Dog in a Hot Car

Even on a mild day, the temperature inside a parked vehicle can rise to dangerous levels within minutes. Cracking the windows does little to prevent heat buildup, and dogs can quickly suffer from heatstroke, organ damage, or worse.

If you're running errands, leave your pet safely at home where it's cool and comfortable. If you see a dog showing signs of distress in a vehicle, contact local authorities immediately.

Signs of heatstroke include:
๐Ÿ• Excessive panting
๐Ÿ• Drooling
๐Ÿ• Weakness or collapse
๐Ÿ• Vomiting
๐Ÿ• Bright red gums

๐ŸŒŸ Staff Spotlight: Sami ๐ŸŒŸ

Meet Sami, one of our wonderful veterinary technicians! Sami has been part of our clinic family for 5 years this June and currently works part-time while raising her daughters. Her favorite part of the job is all the cuddles. She says she has been obsessed with animals since birth, so getting to spend her days with them means everything and keeps her heart happy. ๐Ÿ’œ

What Sami loves most about working here is that everyone shares the same passion for loving and caring for pets. Plus, her coworkers always keep her laughing! She also loves veterinary medicine because it gives her the opportunity to help sick patients feel better and improve their quality of life.

When she is not at work, Sami enjoys camping, bird watching and photography, and spending time playing with her husband & two daughters. She has a special love for wildlife, especially raccoons, possums, and skunks. ๐Ÿฆ

At home, Sami has quite the furry family, including her soul dog Rumple, an 11.5-year-old Shar-pei mix, Maple, a true mutt with over 15 breeds who is 4.5 years old, Theodore Blueberry, an 11.5-year-old DSH, and Cobweb, a 7-year-old DSH. ๐Ÿพ

One of her favorite stories is about Rumple, who was her 11th foster during his first year of life because of severe separation anxiety. He could escape nearly any kennel, even ones designed for baby bear cubs! Now he is a total angel who never leaves his mommaโ€™s side. ๐Ÿ’™

โœจ Fun Facts About Sami:
๐Ÿงฆ She has not worn matching socks since 7th grade
๐Ÿฆ She can identify over 20 birds just by their sounds
โ˜• Go-to coffee: Iced cold brew with sweet cold foam
๐Ÿญ Favorite treats: Sweet snacks, always!
๐Ÿ˜ด Early bird or night owl? Neither. Sami proudly calls herself a โ€œnap queenโ€

We are so lucky to have Sami as part of our team! ๐Ÿ’œ

Soooo much rain this week! ๐ŸŒง๏ธ๐Ÿพ

With all the standing water and muddy areas around, this is a great reminder about the importance of protecting your pets against leptospirosis (lepto).

Lepto is a bacterial disease spread through contaminated water or soil, often from wildlife such as raccoons, possums, rodents, and deer. Dogs can become infected by drinking from or walking through contaminated puddles, ponds, or wet areas.

Even more importantly, lepto is zoonotic, meaning infected pets can potentially spread it to people.

Vaccination is one of the best ways to help protect your pet and your family. If you have questions about your petโ€™s lepto vaccine status, give us a call! ๐Ÿ’™

โ˜€๏ธ As the weather gets nicer, more pups are heading to creeks, streams, rivers, and lakes for some fun in the water! ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿ’ฆ

But how can you tell if the water is safe for your pet?

Here are a few things to watch for ๐Ÿ‘€

๐Ÿšซ Avoid water with:
โ€ข Blue-green algae or algae scum
โ€ข Strong odors
โ€ข Dead fish nearby
โ€ข Murky or stagnant water
โ€ข Excessive trash or runoff

โš ๏ธ Unsafe water can expose pets to harmful bacteria, parasites, and toxins that may cause vomiting, diarrhea, liver damage, or worse.

A few safety tips:
โœ”๏ธ Bring fresh drinking water for your dog
โœ”๏ธ Prevent them from drinking directly from lakes or streams
โœ”๏ธ Rinse them off after swimming
โœ”๏ธ Keep them on flea, tick, and heartworm prevention year-round

When in doubt, itโ€™s always safest to skip the swim ๐Ÿฉต
