Go meet Sandy at Tomlinson's off University Blvd in Round Rock!

Sandy is a 2 year old sweet spayed female cat who showed up on a Good Samaritan's property one day and never left!
She is a chatty little thing who enjoys headbumps and face rubs, cuddles in bed, and making biscuits. She is up to date on rabies and FVRCP vaccines, as well as flea/tick preventative.

Sandy is good with other cats, kids, and livestock (dogs unknown).

🔊 SOUND UP🔊

Lemonade continues to recover from her emergency spay-abort after the discovery a stillborn kitten and fluid sitting in her uterus for approximately 24 hours. There is also still no sign of mastitis for her!

AND… the most heart-touching news of all…

Lemonade has adopted Tiresias and Journey! 🥹❤️

When cats have babies, their hormones are buzzing. The day Lemonade lost her singleton kitten to a catastrophic injury, she frantically searched for him. It was absolutely heartbreaking to watch.

I wanted to give her something.

But bringing more newborn kittens into the picture wasn't an option. Lemonade was too young and she had just undergone an invasive surgery.

After some brainstorming with the board, we decided to trial giving Lem vaccinated, older kittens who could benefit from a little extra motherly love. This way, Lemonade gets the comfort and fulfillment her maternal hormones are craving while she recovers, and Ti + Journey get to experience something they lost very early on: a mother. 🥺

Lemonade has been combo tested, as have both kittens. All three are vaccinated for FVRCP as well.

Sometimes rescue looks like following what we know already works, which for or Lemonade, would have been giving her orphaned newborn kittens to raise. But sometimes it looks like sitting down, getting creative and finding a new solution.

Now Lemonade has babies again. 🍋❤️
And I don't think any of us could be happier about it.

Please share this story of Lemonade and her 🕊🌈 forever angel-baby Nemo 🌈🕊
THIS IS WHY WE SUPPORT SPAY-ABORT.

Lemonade, estimated 6-8 months old and only 6 pounds, would've died painfully as her dead baby slowly poisoned her from the inside.
Let that sink in...

Yesterday, she gave birth to a single kitten weighing 71 grams and, in an attempt to clean off the afterbirth, she unintentionally harmed him. Despite this, Lemonade remained devoted to her mini-me. Ultimately, little Nemo's body could not survive the trauma, and I lost him very early this morning. 🌈🕊

Lemonade continued to keep me on my toes, leaving no room for either of us to grieve that loss. She began breathing rapidly this morning, which got my paranoia spinning.

It's not common for young, seemingly healthy cats to have just ONE baby.
The garage she birthed in was ripped apart to look for more kittens. There was only Nemo.

Last night her abdomen palpated soft, but with some slight engorgement and by morning there was no chan. We skipped the ultrasound or X-rays to confirm a stillborn pregnancy, with the mindset that she will need to be spayed regardless, so it was best to get it done sooner rather than later. Simultaneously, her spay could turn into an abdominal exploratory if needed.

Dr. Hellmeuller made a helluva discovery.
Lemonade had a retained, deformed fetus, and her uterus was filled with an unknown, serous fluid.
THAT was the engorgement I felt last night!

It is unknown whether this was some sort of pre-septic pregnancy, or what... But thankfully, there was no free fluid in her abdomen indicative of whatever was in her uterus having spread.

Lemonade is the SWEETEST freaking thing. 🥺
And we are considering giving her adoptive babies to help with the emotional and physical trauma of all of this.

But for now, it's time to heal. ❤️‍🩹

This was a surprise expense for us, but we had emergency funds thanks to YOU!

Meet Harlow, a sweet 12-week-old kitten who recently joined The Calico Coalition! He's otherwise healthy, FVRCP+Ch vaccinated and FeLV negative.

A Good Samaritan watched him dart into the road before disappearing beneath her car while driving. Fearing the worst, she stopped to look and found him completely unharmed inside her wheel well.

Harlow is currently on a one-week course of dewormer and antibiotics for a mild upper respiratory infection. Once that's complete, he'll be neutered and ready to find his forever home.

If you can open your home to this sweet little medicine-hat-cat, we'd love to hear from you! Bonus points if you have other kittens. He is heavily reliant on companionship right now.

Adoption Spotlight!
Share with your Tuxedo enthusiasts!!!

🖤🤍 Meet Selene-Blaze! 🤍🖤

Selene-Blaze is a beautiful almost 3-year-old spayed female Tuxedo kitty with one-of-a-kind mirrored zigzag markings running down her front legs. Her striking appearance is matched by her loving personality. To top it all off, she didn't have any medical needs either!

This affectionate girl is happiest when she's curled up on the couch with her favorite person, often choosing to lay right on top of them for extra snuggles. When she's not soaking up attention, you'll likely find her sunbathing in a warm window, watching the world go by.

Selene-Blaze gets along well with friendly cats and kittens, but she has a very gentle, submissive nature and can be easily bullied by more territorial feline companions.

Her ideal home would have lower foot traffic and no small, loud children, allowing her to feel safe, relaxed, and able to show off her affectionate side.

If you're looking for a loyal cuddle buddy who will happily keep you company on the couch and bask in sunny windows beside you, Selene-Blaze may be the perfect match. ☀️🐾❤️

🐱Little Life Update on Matilda, our senior Persian surrendered a few months ago🐱
We have answers 🤗

💚What is Matilda’s Diagnosis?💚

Her veterinarian highly suspects she has Pandora Syndrome, a chronic stress-related condition in cats involving the nervous, endocrine, and immune systems. It is particularly notorious for affecting the urinary tract first.

❤️How is it diagnosed?❤️

PS is considered a diagnosis of exclusion, meaning there is no straight-foward testing and is often diagnosed by ruling out other disorders with diagnostics. For Matilda, we have ruled out systemic diseases, physical abnormalities in her bladder, and antibiotic-resistant infections through both aerobic and anaerobic urine cultures.

Current research suggests that cats with the condition often have an extremely heightened sensitivity to environmental changes and everyday stressors.

The signs often first mimic those of a UTI. Some chronically affected cats also experience gastrointestinal, skin, or upper respiratory symptoms—which is consistent with several of the symptoms Matilda has shown since intake.

💙What does Treatment look like?💙
Teatment focuses on reducing stress and supporting overall wellbeing through:
- Environmental enrichment and predictable routines
- Increased hydration through wet food and water fountains
- Adequate litter box access
- Interactive play
- Pain management or anti-anxiety medications when appropriate

Many people have heard of FIC or FLUTD in cats, which I myself expected even, but fewer are familiar with PS.

Understanding the connection between chronic stress and physical health is often the first step toward helping cats live happier, healthier, and more comfortable lives. ❤️🐾

We know now what can be done to allow Matilda a comfortable way of life and at this time, are considering adoption eligibility for the right type of person.

🐱 What Exactly Is a Manx Cat? 🐱
Last night, we made an exception to our "closed-intake" status for a Manx kitten.
Meet Locket!

While many people recognize the breed for its lack of a tail, there's a lot more to these unique cats that isn't well known.

A Manx cat is born with a genetic mutation that affects the development of the tail/lower spine, leaving them with no tail at all or some form of a shortened tail. Many Manx cats can live happily without issues. For some, the condition can affect their entire lower body since the spinal cord runs through the tail, causing neurological defects to the legs, bladder, and bowels.

This is called Manx Syndrome and can include:
- Difficulty walking or jumping
- Urinary or f***l incontinence
- Ataxia or Paresis

For Locket, she completely lacks a tail! So the risk of Manx Syndrome is subsequently higher for her. However, she has shown us that she can run, and go potty just like a kitten with a tail. So we are hopeful that this isn't just temporary since she's little.

For now, we're prioritizing xrays to determine if all of her vertebrae are present (minus the tail of course). We will also be looking for vertebral disk compression, scoliosis, narrow hips or any other spinal/pelvic abnormalities.

Have you ever owned or fostered a Manx cat? We'd love to hear about your experience in the comments! 🐾

Introducing Shego! 🖤

We are officially seeking a foster for Shego!

We originally believed Shego was a hospice case with very limited time left… but she had other plans. 🥹
In the last 2 weeks, Shego has made a complete 180° turn around. She’s steadily gaining weight, growing stronger, learning to use a litterbox, and even started playing with toys!

Now, we’re looking for a foster home where she can continue to thrive while we monitor her progress and repeat bloodwork and blood smears in a couple of weeks to track progress.

She had given us enough indication that she can socialize with other cats, though dogs are still an unknown. Honestly, a cozy spare bedroom or bathroom would make her perfectly happy.

And best of all? Shego is a VERY easy foster.❤️
No medications, no what if scenarios.
Just love, food, and comfort is all she needs.

Please reach out if interested in fostering Shego or one of our other kitties🙌
