DMI- (Dry Matter Intake)- Predicted DMI is the expected amount of dry matter feed an animal will consume on a daily basis. These numbers will vary based on age/size/weight, stage of pregnancy/lactation, Body Condition Score (BCS), environment and feed availability/quality etc......
FEED EFFICIENCY (FE) - or, "Feed Conversion Ratio" is a measure of how efficiently an animal CONVERTS feed into a desired output (lbs/milk...) The lower the ratio, the higher your profit margin. Example, A steer converting 5 # of grass into 1 # of body weight (5:1) is far better than a steer taking 8 # of grass to convert to 1 # (8:1). This is relative to all feed types such as hay, grains, silage etc.....
Direct Fed Microbials -(DFM)- Are live microorganisms such as various strains of bacteria, fungi and yeast that are added to animal feed to improve gut health and nutrient absorbtion.
