Happy Work Anniversary

Animal Control Officer Erin Setzer has been with the Animal Control Division for two years (May 24, 2024).

She is an outstanding ACO and always goes well above and beyond each and every day.

Erin is responsible for initiating our Spay/Neuter Program as well as our feral cat rehabilitation program. She is our go-to person for our wildlife rescue calls. (especially snake calls).

Erin is an absolute joy and an honor to work with and an inspiration to our team.

Please help us thank Erin for all that she does for the Rolla Animal Control/Shelter. Her dedication, professionalism and expertise is always above and beyond. She has a heart of gold for all the animals she has to handle whether on or off duty.

We thank you Erin for all that you do.

(Note: The boss is a little late with this posting. Our daily workload has been exceptional.)

Let me introduce you to Angel, 6 year old female lab. Our longest resident at the shelter. Angel has been with us for 74 days. Most of that time was spent getting her to trust us, making sure she was healthy enough to be adopted and giving her all the love she would allow. As pictured, she was severely overweight when she came to us.

Angel is such a great dog. She has anxiety and needs to go to a home with no children or larger animals. She seems to be okay with smaller animals but has shown aggression towards larger dogs. She preferably needs to go to a home with someone that is experienced in dogs with anxiety. She will take time to warm up.

Angel is spayed, vaccinated and microchipped.

Angel deserves a loving forever home.

Angel LOVES to play. Whether it be a ball or a rope toy, she plays hard. I have not seen Angel near water, but based on her breed I have a feeling she would love to be a river dog.

Angel needs a quiet, loving space that she can call her own. She’s a very loyal dog but as I said, it takes her time to warm up.

If you are interested in meeting Angel or have any questions, call me at the Rolla Animal Shelter 573-364-6559.

Meet our sweet Nani!

She is 4 years old, sweet, and thoroughly done with shelter life. She is sick of our faces and ready for her forever home.
Nani is the ultimate combination of a sweet companion and a cat who knows exactly what she wants. And what she wants right now is out!
If you are looking for a beautiful black cat who is past the crazy kitten phase and ready to settle into a loving home, Nani is your girl. She is already spayed, microchipped, and up-to-date on all her vaccines.
Come by the shelter between 12-4 to meet this girl.

TO THE PERSON WHO DUMPED THIS SWEET BOY AT LIONS CLUB PARK…
Did you look in your rearview mirror?
Because if you did, you would have seen this senior dog chasing your car as fast as his older legs could carry him. He was desperate to get back to you, terrified and confused about why he was being left behind. He probably got excited when he got into the car. He thought it was an adventure. Instead, he was led to Pavilion 12, left a plate of food, and abandoned.
Dogs don’t understand the concept of "getting rid" of someone. When you drove away, all he knew was that his person—his entire universe—was leaving him behind. That’s why he ran after you. He wasn't trying to escape; he was trying to save you from leaving him.
The physical toll on an older dog dumped in the elements is dangerous, but the emotional toll is devastating. Look at his face. He is trembling, confused, and wondering where his person is. Dogs spend their lifetime giving us their absolute best, and they deserve comfort, safety, and love in their final years—not the terror of a strange park.
We are incredibly grateful to the bystander who stopped this nightmare from becoming a tragedy. He is safe now, but the healing process for his broken heart is going to take time.
Please share this awareness. If you are desperate, choose a humane alternative. Call a rescue, message a shelter, or ask the community for support. Never break a loyal animal's heart by driving away. He deserves better. And he will get it. We will be sure of that.
