PSA - Wild Cottontails โ€ผ๏ธ

Baby cottontails have a low survival rate when cared for by humans. Well meaning individuals should NOT try to raise them!

Also, if you have a dog, it is your responsibility to control them. See below for how to protect a nest.

- Only licensed rehabbers can legally take care of wildlife.

- Kitten milk replacer is not appropriate for rabbits and may cause dษ›ath.

When possible, their best chance for survival is in the nest. The mom will only visit for a couple minutes during the night so she doesn't attract predators.

If you do find a stray baby cottontail whose eyes are not yet open and you cannot locate a nest, reach out to a wildlife rehabber.

Can we get a THANK YOU to our veterinary partners? ๐Ÿฅโค๏ธ๐Ÿฉบ

They are there for us when we need them for emergencies (which have been frequent lately), and they're always patient with our chaos! They all are so dedicated to ensuring that these abandoned and neglected buns get the care that they need.

Did you know?
Not all vets treat rabbits or are rabbit savvy? Buns need specialized care with an exotics vet.

SPAY AND NEUTER! ๐Ÿ‡๐Ÿˆโ€โฌ›๐Ÿ•
Critically important to bunny health: nearly 80% of females will develop uterine cancer, and 50 to 60% of males will develop testicular cancer if they are not altered. Not to mention, the importance of preventing unwanted litters.

We're so grateful to our friends,

Dr. Doswell at Animal Medical Clinic Melbourne
and Animal Medical Clinic Melbourne Beach

Dr. Zachariah at Florida Affordable Veterinary Services

Dr. Brickett at Eau Gallie Veterinary Hospital

Dr. Birkbeck and Dr. Danford at Island Animal Hospital at Viera

Dr. Ferris at South Patrick Animal Hospital

Dr. Butler at Ark And Bark Clinic

Ths team at VEG ER for Pets and

The team at Aloha Pet & Bird Hospital.

Great catch by foster Delaney! ๐Ÿ™Œ

This is Peep who was rescued last night and had the botfly removed. He's is in good spirits today. His neuter and repair got pushed back this week but the site is looking much better today!

Peep figured out his litterbox and is bouncing around in his (reduced size) pen, saying hello to his bunny neighbors. He is also very good being held. ๐Ÿ˜Š

THANK YOU to everyone who sent donations to get him taken care of!! These buns would be suffering were it not for you. โค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธ

FOSTER STILL NEEDED!
He squeezed into a reduced size space and we need a regular Foster for him. He's a friendly interactive boy and would be great for a first time bunny home.

Hey fellas, how do you think it feels to have a huge botfly larvae in your te$ticle? ๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿซช๐Ÿคฎ

That's what poor Pepito (nicknamed Peep) just had removed! He has multiple bot flies on his groin and what looks to be a scab from one on his face. He's the one we posted yesterday with a suspected abscess.

We're so grateful to Dr. Brickett at Eau Gallie Veterinary Hospital for getting him straight in tonight! ๐Ÿš‘

A concerned family had been feeding Peep in their backyard after a neighbor threatened to unalive him for meat. ๐Ÿคฎ

Many people think bunnies are "just fine" outside. To an average person, he almost looked just fine hopping around. Thankfully, the family who was feeding him recognized that something wasn't right and reached out.

If botfly larvae break open, it is toxic and fatal.โ€ผ๏ธ This is why domestic bunnies should be kept indoors at all times and only that should attempt to remove them. Even wildlife fall victim to botflies.

Peep has a lot of necrotic tissue and pus and needs to undergo an emergency neuter in the morning. He has already started pain med and an antibiotic.

We've had one emergency after another the past few weeks and could use help to cover his surgery tomorrow. I hate to make a fundraising ask yet again but if you'd like to help, you can give without fees using:

โžก๏ธWe also need a foster for him! โ€ผ๏ธ
He's squeezed into a smaller pen for now but I'm cramped. He's a curious and friendly bunny and would be a great family bunny. He's a pretty tame boy. We think he's about a year old or maybe a little under.

Who loves big white bunnies? ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜

๐ŸŒน๐Ÿ‘‘ Prince and Belle said they're very good bunnies and they want to know why white bunnies get overlooked? ๐Ÿฅบ They've been in the rescue over 2 years!

They are neat with their litterbox and don't get into trouble. Prince loves pets and Belle is a shy girl but sweet as well. They'd love a laid back home to hop around and keep you company watching TV.

They were running loose in a neighborhood, literally dodging cars the night we rescued them! They said that ain't for them, and they're happy to have the house bunny life with their wonderful fosters.

White bunnies (and black bunnies) have the best temperament and the best if you're looking for a bun to hang out in bed ๐Ÿ˜„

Can we find them a great home!? ๐Ÿค๐Ÿค
Currently located in Viera. Message to meet them!

Not sure about a pair? Buns are happier with a friend and there's less worry about loneliness if you're busy. Adopting an already bonded make life easier too.

Anyone up for taking a bun today? ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™

The Oliver girls have gotten to the age where they're having sibling issues (hormones), and we need to separate. Their foster family doesn't have any more room for pens and they're overwhelmed. Can someone foster Binky? She's one of the brown ones.

They are friendly, playful girls! They will be getting spayed soon. They're located in Melbourne/Suntree. Message if you can help!

๐ŸšจIt looks like this bunny has a botfly or dental abscess and needs to be rescued asap. Foster needed! ๐Ÿšจ

We also have a gorgeous, friendly chinchilla girl who could get switched out so our medical foster could take this bun.

We can provide a pen and supplies to get you started.

We are low on funds right now. Any amount helps. You can give without fees ๐Ÿ™

He made it to his 15th and then crossed the rainbow bridge a week later. Rest in peace our beautiful Bentley, you were so very loved.

Bentley was a sanctuary bun who came to us when he was 10. He had been living in a hutch and had been passed around for years. We're so lucky that we were able to get him. It almost didn't happen. The Garcia family gave him the best 5 years any bunny could have had. We thought his time was up last year and he miraculously turned around. He was a fighter. He loved his puppy friends and adored his mom and dad. His space will feel so empty. Please keep them in your thoughts.

And thank you to everyone who helped to give him the life he waited a decade for. He lived it to the fullest. โค๏ธ๐ŸŒˆ

Update: We have a foster. Thank you, Melissa!!

A nice lady picked me up and brought me inside. I was living on the street and I'm scared. Will you be my foster and help me learn that people are nice? - Cocoa cinnamon bun ๐Ÿ‡

We're still looking for a foster for this bun and the ones dumped in Titusville. The black and white one is still loose. We can't rescue unless we have places for them to go. We can lend you a set up to get started.
