As I was cleaning this evening I noticed that the sun was starting to set, casting a warm glow through the kennel as the falling leaves dance little shadows through the windows. I realized that we are nearing the end of our busy season. The pups and I are experiencing the calm moments before our holiday season and then as the snow comes and tucks us all in a blanket of quiet to get ready to welcome in the next busy season. I look around at the mostly empty kennels and a picture book flaps through my mind of all the sweet faces I’ve seen all season. Some have been bright, eager, slobbery puppy faces, some have been new faces we have never seen before that were just sharing vacation with their humans and some have been salt and pepper faced seniors that we have been lucky to share time with since they were those same playful faces. Unfortunately,we have also seen some sweet faces that we will never see again. Some have went on to their next adventures over the rainbow bridge or have moved to other states. One of the hardest parts of doing this job is loving your pets as our own and the sadness of never seeing them again. We become family. We’ve been apart of your weddings, watching your pups for the births of your children, sport games and seeing your kiddos off to college. I’ve shared in smiling at your photos from your trips when you pick up ,to crying with you when only one of your pups runs in the door or the passing of your parent. You’ve also shared in our moments. Many of you have watched my son and daughter grow up. You’ve brought them gifts back, Happy Meals and invited them to your kiddos birthday parties. Words cannot thank each and every one of you for sharing your pets with us for so many wonderful years, for sharing your lives with us. Thank you for allowing me to share my life with you and giving me a job that I love to wake up to. We cannot wait to celebrate the coming holidays with you over the next few months and share in more special moments.
Now that I’ve made myself cry, I need to go tuck your babies in.
