Catskill Veterinary Services is a full service animal hospital. Dr. Joe D'Abbraccio started the practice in December of 2012 as a part-time home care practice. Since its inception, the practice has continued to grow and now to a complete veterinary hospital. We also have a number of veterinary specialists available for consult including complicated intestinal/liver disease as well as complicated s

urgical cases. Our consulting surgery specialist provides a variety of orthopedic procedures such as total hip replacements, knee surgery, complicated fracture repairs, and even spinal surgery. Our services have some of the latest diagnostic and monitoring devices in the region. We have a full radiology suite for full body digital radiographs. Our doctors can also perform digital abdominal, tendon, and reproductive sonograms. We can perform high-definition cat scan (CT) imaging at our Rock Hill, NY location. This type of technology allows our medical team to detect even the most subtle abnormalities that may have been unappreciated with traditional radiology technology. We currently have 5 full time doctors, 2 part time doctors, and a staff totaling close to 60!

This guinea pig came to us after suddenly developing facial nerve paralysis, which caused drooping on one side of the face and difficulty blinking. Facial nerve paralysis can occur in many species and may be related to infection, inflammation, trauma, or even underlying neurological disease.

This sweet girl came to us after suffering a tibial tuberosity avulsion fracture—an orthopedic injury that required surgical repair. Thanks to our surgical team, Luna’s procedure went smoothly, and she’s now on the road to recovery. 🐾❤️

🎧🐶 Mystery solved!

Thanks to everyone who guessed what our curious pup swallowed. The answer is in… it was indeed an AirPod!

Luckily, our team was able to safely remove it using minimally invasive endoscopy. This allowed for a quick recovery and less discomfort than traditional surgery.

👉 Foreign objects are one of the most common emergencies we see. Dogs and cats can be sneaky when it comes to chewing or swallowing things they shouldn’t—so always keep an eye out and call us right away if you suspect your pet may have eaten something unusual.

We’re just glad this story has a happy ending (and that the AirPod still worked 😉).

We’re excited to welcome Dr. Renee Loeffel to the Catskill Veterinary Services Team!

Dr. Renee grew up in the Capital Region of New York and earned her bachelor’s degree in zoology and animal behavior from the University of New Hampshire. She began her career working in small animal practice before pursuing her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at North Carolina State University.

While in vet school, Dr. Renee was actively involved in several clubs, including wildlife & exotics, ruminant & equine medicine, and surgery. She has special interests in surgery, feline medicine, behavioral medicine, and dentistry—but enjoys working with patients of all species.

Outside of work, Dr. Renee enjoys spending time with her two cats (Mia and Cranberry) and her dog (Alfie), as well as traveling, kayaking, skiing, and crafting.

Please join us in giving Dr. Renee a warm welcome as she begins her journey with us as a mixed animal veterinarian. We’re lucky to have her on the team! 💙
