Met these lovely ladies to crochet and knit more wildlife nests today. This is just part of our group, but thank you Annie, Tori, Nancy, Nonna, and Megan!

Tori came with a new creation today - tunnels!

One year ago today, a dear friend of mine, Nonna, posted on Facebook asking if anybody would like to learn to crochet bird nests. I'm sure she never expected what we have today! We have the most wonderful group of people that crochet/knit nests for wildlife and donate them. To date, we have made 584 nests, 4 opossum beds, and 3 sleep sacks. I try to always have nests with me and offer them to any rehabbers who can use them.

A week ago, Nonna brought me yet another group of amazing nests. They were made by Nonna, Tori, Nancy, and Kirstie. Nonna, Tori, and Nancy show up to most of our get-togethers and send me beautiful nests consistently. Kirstie just made her first nest and sent it all the way from Seward, Alaska!

Nonna Shtipelman, I'm so happy you had this idea and that I have been able to be a small part of it. I love being around people that just genuinely want to do something to help animals. Thank you, all!

I recently got a call about this adorable grackle that was found on the ground with a powdery white substance flaking off. Mom was nearby, as expected with a fledgling. The finder sent pictures, and I felt fairly confident that it was a normal, healthy fledgling with pin feathers (the white flaky stuff). It was getting close to dark, and I just wanted to double check with my go-to expert for bird advice before telling the finder to leave the bird alone. I'm so glad I did!

Beth at Feathers & Faith-Songbird Rehabilitation Sanctuary pointed out to me that this little guy did not have enough tail feathers and should be brought into rehab. Otherwise, he would be stuck down on the ground for a while. She thought he probably jumped out of the nest too soon. Thank you so much, Beth, for always being patient, answering my questions, and teaching me so much. I'm so grateful to have you to discuss birds with!

The finder brought the bird to Beth, and it is currently strong and healthy and doing great. ❤️
