Here at The Modern K9, obedience training is a way of life, not just a short-term solution to a problem. Therefore, we don’t specialize in any one technique. Reward based training may work for certain behaviors; correction and redirection may be necessary for others. Your trainer will work closely with you to understand the relationship between your dog and your stresses. We will build your confid

Do you know a dog who just seems to have unlimited energy? Do you take your pup out for hour long walks, only to come home and they’re still zooming around the yard? Or do you just have a busy work schedule and don’t want them to get up to trouble while you’re gone?

The Do’s & Don’t’s of… Water Safety!

When it comes to the warm, summer days, all you want to do with your dog to help beat the heat is take them for a swim, but do you know what warning signs to look for? Whether or not you’re taking your dog to the beach, or to a lake, remember the following;

- Always keep an eye on your pets

- Be on the lookout for strong currents and riptides, which can swiftly pull your dog underwater

- Always check the temperature of sand, as it can burn or cause blisters on pawpads

- When at a lake, also know what cyanobacteria, AKA blue algae, looks like, as it can kill within minutes

Once you’ve understood and followed the safety precautions, remember to have fun with your dog! Bring some toys to play fetch, run and chase with them, and let them simply enjoy splashing around in the waves. Warm weather is fleeting up north, so always try to make the most of it.

With these hot and humid late summer days its incredibly important to recognize the signs of heat stroke, as it can be life threatening.

Before any walk or outside activity, especially on concert, place the back of your hand on it and if its too hot for you then it is too hot for them, which can cause burns on their paw pads.

Make sure your pets have access to shade, cool water, and allowing breaks when doing any activity outside. If you need to run errands leave your pets at home, we all know how quickly cars can turn to saunas.

If you suspect your dog may be experiencing heat stroke symptoms which can be excessive panting, increased salva, vomiting and/or diarrhea, and in extreme cases seizures. Begin cooling them with tepid water (never cold water) focusing on their neck, stomach, groin and feet. Offer them some tepid water as well but don't force them to drink. Reach out to your vet or an emergency vet ASAP to figure out your next steps.

We all love spending summer days outside with our family and fur friends, let's keep them safe as well.

A full rotation around the sun for one little schnauzer!

Today, we celebrated Nina’s birthday; an optimistic one year old! She’s definitely the life of the party when it comes to daycare, and she can’t get enough of racing around with her friends, barking without a care in the world.

It’s not everyday you have a buddy to share a birthday with, but it seems today was that lucky time of year for our wonderful Pepper, and resident chill guy Blanco!

Pepper is turning a tubular two years old, while Blanco is hitting the fabulous five!

Plenty of friends are in to help them celebrate, as well as enjoy the tasty treats!
