🐾 ADOPTION ANNOUNCEMENT 🐾
Bodhi has been adopted💙
Sometimes an adoption feels like the beginning of something much bigger.
When I received Justin and Brigitte’s application for one of our Rottweiler puppies, their story stopped me in my tracks.
They had lost their beloved Rottweiler, Brutus, almost a year earlier. As I got to know them, I realized Brutus wasn’t simply their dog. For Brigitte, he was her dog—that once-in-a-lifetime love.
I knew that love.
Brutus was to Brigitte what Zelda was to me.
Justin works in law enforcement and founded Honor Serve and Support, a nonprofit focused on first-responder mental health and wellness. He was searching for a Rottweiler with the potential to become his service dog and provide support related to PTSD.
Reading his application, with my own experiences with PTSD and everything I’ve walked through since losing Zelda, I had a thought I couldn’t shake:
Maybe Zelda sent these people my way.
Then Justin and Brigitte came to meet the puppies.
And they met Bodhi. 💜
Today, Bodhi is home, loved beyond measure and in service-dog training for Justin, with work that may eventually allow him to serve alongside the Police Department.
And our little rescue puppy is absolutely crushing it. 🥹
Since his adoption, the three of us have stayed in touch almost daily—talking about Bodhi’s training and shenanigans, but also about Brutus, Zelda and the strange road of grief after losing a dog who was part of your soul.
Bodhi isn’t replacing Brutus. That’s not how love works.
Sometimes, though, the love they leave behind opens a door we never knew we’d walk through.
Justin and I are now talking about ways Honor Serve and Support and Your Love Unleashed may work together in the future.
Maybe this is one beautiful adoption.
Or maybe Brutus and Zelda somehow helped begin a brand-new chapter for all of us. 💜
Either way…
Bodhi is exactly where he’s supposed to be. 🐾
