With the ice we have had in the last week in New Jersey, we need to take special care of our equine partners. If you are fortunate enough to be able to have your horse get some turn out, realize that even if they are able to go out they are not moving or playing the way they might normally. When you bring them into the ring where they are in good footing, be prepared to help them safely work through their extra energy. You should walk an extra amount in the beginning to loosen up stiff muscles and joints and if you need to lunge encourage long slow work versus flying around ā€œkite on a stringā€. Warmer weather is coming at the end of the week, we can make it! Let’s all try to get through this ice coating with no injuries to horses or people!! Be safe out there!

Your trainer’s famous words: ā€œOne more time.ā€

Why one more time? Because repetition is essential in horse training.

Tonight, Josh and Sam had a productive groundwork lesson with Liz, focusing on lateral work, first on the ground, then under saddle. Beginning on the ground and using the wall as a guide, Sam practiced moving laterally to the left and right. He picked it up quickly through repetition on the ground, but once the exercise transitioned under saddle, some confusion surfaced.

So what did we do? They tried working through it, but Liz hopped on, felt where Sam was struggling, and broke the exercise down step by step. She ensured everyone was on the same page—releasing pressure at the right moments, rewarding correct efforts, offering reassurance, and most importantly, using deep exhales to encourage relaxation and release tension. Josh got back on and worked on it some more and got some great steps in.

While moments like these can feel challenging, the reward on the other side is always worth it. Horsemanship is the foundation of everything we teach, and patience, clarity, and consistency are what lead to lasting progress!

Great job Josh and Sam!

**NEW FOR 2026 AT GALLOPING LANE FARM**

Now offering limited, private lessons.

Galloping Lane Farm is excited to introduce the Galloping Lane Horsemanship Program. Our philosophy is simple: Horsemanship is the foundation of everything we teach. While we are primarily an eventing barn, riders and students from all disciplines and levels are welcome. All instruction is private, and safety, patience, and respect guide every interaction. Riding is encouraged, but never required.

This private, small lesson program is designed for people who want more than just riding lessons. Students learn the full picture - safe handling, groundwork, round pen work, thoughtful communication, and riding that grows naturally from a solid foundation of horsemanship.

We are a small farm with a limited number of horses, and our program is intentionally designed to remain small. By prioritizing quality over quantity, enrollment is limited and may include a waiting list, ensuring individualized attention for each student and the well-being of our horses.

If you are looking for a thoughtful, relationship-centered approach to horses, we would love to hear from you!

**Very Unique Opportunity** Who is looking for a handsome Christmas present this year? Meet Noddy!

Noddy is a lovely 2013 Oldenburg gelding with a big personality and a bit of quirk. He is a solid 17.1 hands and a beautiful mover. He has been trained through Third Level dressage and previously jumped extensively, though he no longer seems to enjoy jumping as much as he once did.

We bred Noddy 12 years ago and sold him as a yearling. Since then, he has enjoyed a wonderful life with his owner, who invested significant time, training, and care into him. When she retired from riding, Noddy was still too young to step back from work. Unwilling to sell him elsewhere, she generously offered him back to me.

Over the past several months, I’ve evaluated what maintenance best supports him and have put in consistent rides. He is not suitable for a beginner; he thrives with a confident, experienced rider who appreciates a horse with size, talent, and opinions. He will occasionally express his opinion about work - yet he is also the type who will give you his whole heart when he’s with you.

With the right rider and consistent program, Noddy is fully capable of continuing a successful dressage career and could likely return to small jumping courses with dedication and patience. He is excellent to handle on the ground, enjoys his turnout, and stands well for both the vet and farrier. I also have extensive X-rays available, as I had him thoroughly evaluated to determine what support he might need.

I have hacked him out alone and taken him off property, and he has been well behaved. While his days of eventing or larger jumping efforts are likely behind him, he is truly stunning on the flat and has much to offer

10,šŸ„•šŸ„•šŸ„• negotiable for the ideal home. If you’d like to learn more about him, please feel free to call—I would love to discuss whether he might be the right match for you.

Let’s find Noddy his perfect forever partner!
