🚨Is Your Pet Ready for Fireworks? 🚨

Dr. Minch’s 3 Must-Know Tips

While fireworks are exciting for us, they can be overwhelming (and scary!) for many pets. A little preparation before the Fourth of July can make a huge difference in helping them feel safe, secure, and comfortable.

Dr. Minch shared her top 3 tips to help prepare your pet for fireworks season. Read her full advice below ⬇️

1️⃣ Create a calming toolkit
“Readily available tools like compression garments, soothing pheromones, long lasting treats and calming supplements are all helpful tools for many pets during fireworks. Give us a call and we can talk you through selecting the right tool for your pet!”

2️⃣ Keep them safe and secure
“Make sure your pet is wearing a collar with a tag, their microchip information is up-to-date, and that they will be staying in a secure area they can’t escape from! Also consider staying home with your pet during the fireworks. Many pets run away during fireworks, which can lead to devastating outcomes.”

3️⃣ Plan ahead
“If you know your dog is noise reactive, reach out early to fill prescriptions before the 4th! There are prescription medications that can significantly ease stress during fireworks. For prescriptions, we need an updated physical – calling early ensures we can get your pet what they need!”

Perk of having a mom who owns a vet clinic? Every day can be Take Your Dog to Work Day.

Gingerbread takes her role as Dr. Minch’s assistant very seriously — offering moral support, supervising the team, and personally testing and ✨thoroughly ✨inspecting the clinic’s supply of cozy blankets. 🐶

Does your dog get to join you at work (or are they your favorite work-from-home coworker)?

We’d love to see them - share your “coworker” photos with us below! 👇

🦷 When community comes together, big things happen (and sometimes… big teeth happen too - see second slide for evidence 😉)

Today we had the privilege of spending time with one of Richmond Animal Care & Control very special residents - Carjacker or “Jack” as he’s affectionately known.

As a small veterinary practice, one of our favorite things is getting to work alongside incredible community organizations like Richmond Animal Care and Control, who dedicate so much time, compassion, and advocacy to helping animals get the second chances they deserve.

Our role in Carjacker’s journey was a small one (helping this handsome guy with his dental care) but getting to spend the day with him was a pretty big highlight for our team.

And we can confirm: that mighty big tooth may be what catches your eye… but his heart is what steals the show.

Carjacker is a big, handsome bullmastiff mix with an even bigger personality. He’s a laid-back, lovable guy looking for a family who will be the peas to his carrots. 🥕💚

He loves being with his people as much as possible, making new friends, and being included in life’s everyday moments. His ideal family understands that his big heart comes with lots of love to give (and maybe a little extra love needed in return).

When it comes to dog friends, Carjacker appreciates a buddy who can match his easygoing style or someone who knows how to “go with the flow” and take things at his pace.

A huge thank you to RACC for everything you do for pets like Carjacker and for letting us be one small stop on his journey toward forever.

Now let’s help this sweet boy find his forever home! 🤍

From found kitten ➡️ forever family 💚

Meet Ozzie! 🐾

When this sweet girl was found, her family brought her in to be scanned for a microchip - an important first step in helping lost pets get home.

Ozzie didn’t have a chip, but she now has a family who loves her enough to make sure she’ll never be without one again. 🥹

She is now officially adopted, spayed, microchipped, and living her best life.

Happy National Microchipping Month, Ozzie! 🐱✨

This week, we’re celebrating our veterinary assistants — the multitaskers, organizers, caretakers, and behind-the-scenes glue that keeps the clinic moving every single day. 💚🐾

Veterinary assistants wear more hats than most people realize. In the same shift, they may help restrain a nervous patient, clean up accidents, prepare treatments, comfort anxious owners, monitor recovery patients, restock supplies, answer questions, help keep doctors on schedule, and somehow still remember which dog only takes cheese as a treat and which cat absolutely does not want to be touched first thing in the morning.

They know the flow of the clinic, the personalities of the patients, who needs extra cuddles after surgery, who’s scared of nail trims, and when a client just needs a little extra reassurance.

And within minutes, they can go from celebrating a brand new puppy visit to helping support a family through goodbye. It’s emotional, demanding work that requires compassion, adaptability, resilience, and an incredible amount of heart.

Veterinary assistants do the jobs nobody sees, remember the details everyone else forgets, and help make compassionate care possible every day.

Jenny, Tori, Maria, Tammy, Alexis (and Mike who is not pictured because he’s away at school!) - We are so grateful for everything you all do for our patients, clients, and team. 💚
