We're in need of clean blankets and towels to help us provide warm, comfortable bedding for our patients during their stay at the hospital. If you have any extras at home, we’d love to give them a second life helping animals in need. 💙

🧺 You can drop donations off Monday to Thursday, anytime between 9am and 5pm — no appointment needed!

Thank you for supporting our furry friends and helping us keep them cozy while they heal. 🐶🐱

🐾 This is Venus — a stunning Persian cat who recently came to us with pyometra, a serious and potentially life-threatening uterine infection that affects unspayed female pets.

Thanks to quick treatment, Venus is doing much better now. 💛

Pyometra can come on suddenly and requires emergency care, but the good news is — it’s completely preventable through spaying. Spaying and neutering also help reduce overpopulation and can improve your pet’s long-term health.

If your pet isn’t spayed or neutered yet, it’s worth having that conversation. And if you ever notice signs like discharge, vomiting, lethargy, or increased thirst in an unspayed female pet — please reach out to your primary veterinarian or emergency veterinarian right away.

During summer, sidewalks and asphalt can reach dangerously high temperatures that may burn paw pads in seconds.

Try this test: Place the back of your hand on the pavement for 7 seconds. If it’s too hot for you, it’s too hot for your pet.

Morning and evening walks are safest—and don’t forget grassy paths, booties, or protective wax!

🐾 In honor of National Feed a Rescue Pet Week (July 24–30), we’re excited to share something special happening right here in our community!

The first indoor pet pantry for the RVA Free Pet Pantry Project has been announced to open on August 1st — and it’s located inside Powers BMX Shop! 🐶🐱 This pantry offers free pet food and supplies to families in need, helping to keep pets happy, healthy, and at home.

This pantry also holds a special place in our hearts. It honors the memory of Pedals, a sweet girl we had the privilege of caring for. Her legacy lives on through this act of kindness and support for others. 💛

If you or someone you know could use a little extra help feeding their furry family, stop by and check it out!

Dogs and cats are more prone to dehydration in the heat, especially after walks, playtime, or even lounging outdoors.

As a rule of thumb, pets need about 1 oz of water per pound of body weight per day, and even more when it's hot.

If you notice these signs, call your local emergency vet right away!

Our Story

Our mission is to provide high quality surgical and dental care to your pet at affordable rates. We are able to achieve our mission by limiting the scope of our services to surgery and dental care only. We cut out office visit / consultation time and fees in order to put all of our efforts into treating your pet. We are a drop off, outpatient clinic. We cooperate with many great primary care veterinarians in all areas and will be happy to refer you for any follow up care, general health care, or medical needs.

Thank you kindly for using our services. We love the animals, and have enjoyed treating them from all over the United States (so far 39 of the 50 U.S. States!) and Canada. Please help us continue to help you and your pets by telling your family and friends about Helping Hands. Together, we will see that no pets go without the surgery or dental care they need due to prohibitively high costs.
