Aspen Ridge Ranch

Full service equestrian training, lessons and boarding. Aspen Ridge Ranch is a full service Equestrian boarding and riding facility.

The property is located in the foothills of the Beartooth Mountains on 250 acres with miles and miles of amazing trails. The property abuts Forest Service land where the BRTA is completing more trails every season. We offer boarding, training and lessons with our resident trainer Bill Crabtree. There is a large 150x300' outdoor arena with beautiful views and fabulous footing, and a gorgeous 100x2

00' indoor arena for year round use! We have heated indoor and outdoor wash stalls, heated tack room lockers, a round pen, large pastures for turn out, indoor stalls, and much more. In the winter, Aspen Ridge is host to the Red Lodge Nordic Ski Center where cross-country skiers take advantage of the beautiful groomed trails December through March. What a fantastic Halloween celebration! 🎃

A huge thank you to all of the incredible volunteers who helped us put on the community Halloween party. From setting up decorations and organizing games to helping with food, music, and cleanup — we couldn’t have done it without you. Your hard work and spirit made it a truly special day for everyone who came out. We’re so grateful to have such a supportive community around the ranch!

✨Aspen Ridge Ranch is excited to welcome Teresa Ball for private lessons this August! ✨

Arete Equestrian LLC Teresa Ball is a USDF Silver Medalist based in Bozeman, MT, known for her thoughtful, classical approach to dressage and her knack for bringing out the best in both young and quirky horses. Teresa has trained with top ‘S’ judges and international Grand Prix competitors and is passionate about making dressage accessible and rewarding for every horse-and-rider team.

In addition to her dressage background, Teresa has seen success in regional equitation medal finals and hunter derbies, and she enjoys coaching and riding in the jumper ring. Her students have qualified for USHJA Finals in Las Vegas and earned numerous year-end awards and championships across local show circuits.

45-minute private lessons are $110.

Jim Hicks is an accomplished professional Horseman. He uniquely blends the principles of horsemanship with the movements of dressage to bring out the best in himself and his equine partners. Hicks refuses to attribute the value of a horse to its price tag and believes that the horse is the mirror to the human soul. He is a committed student of the horse and takes pride in helping others relate to their horses in a way that leaves both horse and rider successful in their partnership.

Aspen Ridge Ranch is proud to welcome Katy Nichwander in January for lessons!

Katy Nichwander is an advanced-level three-day event rider based in Florence, Montana. She is the owner and trainer of Kathryn Nichwander Equestrian, LLC, and On Point Sport Horses. Before returning to Montana in 2021, Katy spent seven years working and training under John Camlin at Caber Farm. She grew up on the East Coast, where she competed and trained with several Olympic eventers.

Currently, Katy actively competes in Area VII and makes several trips to Area VI each year. She teaches a variety of riders, ranging from beginners to intermediate-level three-day eventers, and specializes in starting off-the-track Thoroughbreds.

A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by to trick or treat with us! It was a spooktacular night, made possible by our amazing volunteers and their horses. We are deeply grateful to everyone who helped organize this fun evening! We missed our friends at Red Lodge Veterinary Clinic and hold them in our hearts while they heal theirs.

We will be hosting Tara Graham, “The Equine Bit Fitter” on July 26th and 28th. We have 3 spots available for bit/bridle fittings. Tara will spend between 1-2 hours analyzing your horse's oral anatomy and trying different bits for them to go in.

Auditors are welcome to join for her hour-long presentation for $20 which offers tips for those not having a horse fitted. She will debunk a few myths and the Q&A usually leads to valuable discussions. The presentation is heavily anatomy-based, but not too ‘serious’!

Our Story

The property abuts Forest Service land where the BRTA is completing more trails every season. We also invite guest trainers several times a year including our regular event Jim Hicks - Dressage Principals for the Horseman, www.sagecreekequestrian.com. We have recently completed a state of the art indoor arena with all the comforts of home, and a viewing deck built above our new tack rooms. There is a large outdoor arena with beautiful views and fabulous footing. In the winter Aspen Ridge is host to the Red Lodge Nordic Ski Center where cross-country skiers take advantage of the beautiful groomed trails December through March. Have fun riding in the snow side by side with some of the nordic skiers. We have been the sight of several weddings and special events but our dates are limited.
