Our Team is Growing—with Heart
We’ve been honored to welcome so many new clients recently, and with that growth, our team is expanding too. From new staff to ongoing training and support, we’re building on the same foundation we always have: personalized, thoughtful care for every patient and every family.

At Beartooth Animal Hospital, we’re more than just a clinic—we’re a team that values compassion, community, and balance. We’re proud to be a family-friendly workplace, and we support each other in every role, both at work and at home.

Thank you for being part of our story. We’re grateful to walk alongside you in caring for the animals you love.

Behavior Changes? Let’s Talk.
We’ve seen a recent rise in dogs showing signs of aggression—sometimes on walks, sometimes at home. Behavior changes often signal pain, fear, or confusion. Before you blame bad behavior, let’s rule out medical causes. A physical exam is the first step, and we can talk through safe, compassionate ways to help your dog feel better and behave better. Stay safe out there—especially on the trails near Red Lodge.

Trail Dogs & Montana Summer
Montana is putting on a show—blue skies, warm sun, and trails begging to be explored. Your dogs are loving it too! If your pup is hiking, swimming, or roaming the outdoors with you, make sure they’re up to date on vaccines and protected from ticks and parasites. Bring water, take breaks, and watch those paws on hot rocks or pavement. Here’s to a happy, healthy trail season!

Surgery Day Reminder
We know how much you care about your pets—and we’re so grateful to be part of their care team. If your pet has a scheduled surgery, please remember to withhold food and water for at least 12 hours before the appointment. This is a very important step to help keep them safe during anesthesia. We’ve had a few missed fasts lately and know it’s easy to forget, especially with busy mornings. If you ever have questions about prep instructions, just give us a call—we’re happy to walk you through it. Thank you for helping us provide the safest care possible.

In Loving Memory of Murphy
Our clinic family is grieving the sudden loss of our beloved clinic dog, Murphy, who was tragically hit by a car last Friday. Murphy was more than a pet—he was our greeter, our comforter, and a joyful presence for every client who walked through our doors. He belonged to Dr. John and Sue Beug and carried forward their kindness in the way only a beautiful Collie could. We know many of you have experienced the same heartbreak, and we ache alongside you. The bond we share with our animals is deep and real—and so is the grief when they’re gone.

Rabies Is Still Here in Montana
Rabies hasn’t gone away—just this year, multiple positive cases have been reported across the state, including bats, skunks, and other wildlife. It’s a deadly virus, and it’s preventable.

Make sure your pets—dogs, cats, horses—are up to date on their rabies vaccines. It’s not just the law, it’s protection for your family and community.

Questions? Call us—we’re here to help you stay safe.

Celebrating Hailey Neibauer!
We’re thrilled to celebrate Hailey Neibauer’s one-year mark (we actually missed it a month ago...🙃) at Beartooth Animal Hospital! Hailey brings dedication, compassion, and a rock-solid work ethic to every shift—and our patients (and staff) are lucky to have her.

We caught this sweet moment of her with Tate Graber (Heather’s 10-month-old son) and couldn’t resist sharing. Here's to many more years of teamwork and tail wags with Hailey!

Rattlesnake Vaccine Update: What You Need to Know

The USDA recently revoked the conditional license for the Crotalus atrox toxoid vaccine (commonly known as the rattlesnake vaccine). This means the product is no longer approved or available for use anywhere in the U.S.

At Beartooth Animal Hospital, we want to assure our clients that we are still prepared to respond to snakebite emergencies. We maintain a supply of the only USDA-approved treatment for rattlesnake envenomation: rattlesnake antivenin (Crotalidae polyvalent antivenin), which is effective for neutralizing venom from rattlesnakes commonly found in our region.

While there is no vaccine available now, you can reduce your pet’s risk by staying alert in high-risk areas. In our region, rattlesnakes have been reported around the Red Lodge airport, Joliet, Bridger, and Nye—especially during warmer months.

If your pet is bitten by a rattlesnake:

Keep them as calm and still as possible.

Do not attempt to suck out the venom or apply a tourniquet.

Call us or the nearest emergency clinic immediately for treatment.

We are here for you and your pets—prepared, experienced, and ready to help.

Spring Vaccines Reminder
As warmer weather means more travel, trails, and exposure to illness, now is the time to review your pet’s vaccine status—especially Rabies, Distemper/Parvo, Bordetella, and Leptospirosis. Lepto is a bacterial spirochete that can cause acute kidney failure in dogs and can also affect humans, posing risks for illness and pregnancy complications.

We believe in thoughtful, lifestyle-based vaccine planning. We’ll work with you to choose only what’s necessary for your pet’s exposure risks—and we gladly support and offer titer testing, with the exception of the state-mandated Rabies vaccine.

Give us a call if you have questions or want to book. Let’s get your pet safely set for spring. 406-446-3738
