🐾 A Little Clarification Regarding Our Flea Policy 🐾

We want to address some concerns and misinformation regarding our recent post about administering Capstar to dogs that arrive at the shop with fleas.

First and most importantly, nothing will ever be given to an animal without the owner being notified. We believe in being transparent with our clients, and your pet’s safety and well-being will always come first.

Our flea policy applies when an animal arrives at the salon with a large amount of live fleas or an active flea infestation. We are not talking about finding one occasional flea.

We completely understand that occasionally finding one flea on a dog does not necessarily mean the owner has neglected flea prevention. Many flea preventatives work by killing fleas after they come into contact with the treated animal, so even a dog that is properly and consistently on flea prevention can sometimes have a flea hitch a ride before the preventative has had a chance to kill it. We understand that.

However, when a dog arrives with a large number of live fleas, that is a completely different situation. At that point, immediate flea control is necessary to protect that pet and the other animals in our care.

Capstar is a fast-acting flea treatment that is approved for use in dogs and is commonly used by veterinarians and animal shelters when dealing with fleas. When used according to the label directions, it is considered a safe and effective way to quickly kill adult fleas on a dog.

The reason we are taking this step is not to punish anyone or create an inconvenience. It is to help protect every animal that comes through our doors, including our own shop pets. When a dog comes into the salon with a large number of fleas, we need to be able to address the fleas quickly rather than risk them being carried throughout the grooming environment.

It is also important to understand that fleas are not a contagious illness that “spreads” from dog to dog in the same way a disease does. Fleas are parasites, and controlling them quickly helps prevent an infestation from becoming an ongoing environmental problem.

We understand that some owners may have questions or concerns about flea treatments, and we are always happy to discuss them. Our goal is simply to provide a clean, safe environment for every pet in our care while doing everything we can to protect the animals that visit our salon. ❤️🐾

Thank you to all of our clients who continue to trust us with your pets. We appreciate your understanding and support!

🐾 Important Update for Our Grooming Clients 🐾

Due to the large number of dogs coming into the shop with fleas, we have made the decision to begin administering Capstar to any dog that arrives with evidence of fleas. The cost of the Capstar will be added to your grooming bill.

We have a shop dog and shop cat that are exposed to every pet that comes through our doors, and unfortunately, they are being put at risk because of how some flea cases have been. To help protect them, as well as all of our clients’ pets, we will no longer be asking for approval before administering Capstar when fleas are present—it will be given as needed, and the charge will be added to your invoice.

We truly don’t like having to implement this policy, but the health and safety of every animal in our care is our top priority. Thank you for your understanding and continued support as we work to provide a clean, safe environment for everyone. ❤️🐶🐱
