This is a very hard post for me to make, but after praying and speaking with my family. I have decided to retire from grooming. Twenty years ago my dad and I decided to open Wagging Tails everyone thought we were crazy. We had a small budget of $1200 to get the business started and we even shared a clipper.I can still remember the excitement I felt and I even remember what the first bandannas looked like. We had agreed that if we could get 5 dogs a day we would consider the business a success within no time we were grooming up to 80 dogs a week! I eventually went on to become an internationally certified groomer and groomed in front of judges from around the world! My dad and I groomed 17 years together side by side and then my dad became sick, constantly running a high fever and for months doctors could not figure out what was wrong with my dad. Finally an infectious disease doctor diagnosed him with a very rare disease that he caught from grooming dogs, he was never able to groom again and he still battles with the disease to this day. He recently had the infection around his heart. The doctors said that a person with a normal immune system wouldn’t have caught anything from grooming, but my dad was on medication for rheumatoid arthritis that suppresses the immune system. The last few years I have groomed alone,but I was also diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and now take medication that suppresses the immune system so I am at risk of catching the same thing as my dad. I also have a lot of damage to my wrist and hand from all these years of grooming.
Making this decision is one of the hardest decisions I have ever had to make. Wagging Tails has been such a huge part of my life, it’s hard for me to imagine life without it. If you have been a customer in the last 20 years I just wanted to say THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart! I have seen a lot of you on a weekly basis for 20 years and you have become family to us!
