Hey guys !!

Jake has open dates for day rates (October 1, 2 (Filled) 3-7TH (filled) october 28th -30th (FILLED) of this upcoming season. We are fully booked for all inclusive unless otherwise stated.

This includes a field lunch , usage of Jake’s dogs, and him talking about how much he loves grouse and doodles.

Breed highlight : (The Gordon Setter)

The Gordon Setter originated in Scotland, with its modern form developed in the 1820s by Alexander Gordon, the 4th Duke of Gordon, who bred black and tan setters at Gordon Castle.

The breed was developed to hunt game birds in Scotland’s rugged terrain and was shaped by crossing the initial setters with other breeds like collies and bloodhounds.

The Gordon Setter was officially recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1878 as the “Gordon Castle Setter” and became simply the “Gordon Setter” in 1924.

Classified as the gentleman’s foot hunting dog there is no other breed that we would rather have on our guide-string here at superior upland.

Gallant Gun Dogs / Small Munsterlanders still getting it done !

Today was S***t’s 33rd day afield for the 2025 upland bird hunting season, and for the first time this year she was not targeting ruffed grouse.

She did, however, get to help Kwenton get his Indiana Upland Slam (unofficial, named by me today), which I’m calling wild pheasant, bobwhite quail, and woodcock all from the same property and on the same day.

Yeah, that means all I got today was a doodle. I’m okay with that; we only have about three weeks left for them and the migration is mostly through us anyway so I’m happy to take one when I can!

BTW, the dog work today was phenomenal in spite of the >30mph winds that we battled most of the day and the near 70 degree temps.

S***t, and the young Brittany “Yeti” are having a great season, and we’re just getting started!

BIG ANNOUNCEMENT: Justin Madron will be joining the guidestaff for this upcoming fall for additional time, this opens up the dates of 10/11-10/19 for anyone who is interested in coming hunting with him here at Superior Upland.

Justin is a born West Virginian and currently resides in Virgina, however he travels all over the country in upland pursuits. Fun fact he was our first client here almost four years ago which has turned into a great friendship.
