Keller and Company A look into life with Amanda and her 4 dogs (most deaf), some cats and hamsters. There's never a dull moment! Welcome to our page.

I’m Amanda and I share my life with a bunch of animals. The dogs are the main focus here and most of them are deaf/blind. We’re here to educate and entertain and hope you enjoy

I saw a quote the other day that has really stuck in my brain and torpedoed me into over thinking about it and I just want to share it and ramble and honestly see how anyone else feels.

“When a dog passes away, they whisper to another dog, ‘go find my human. They need you now.’”

Obviously I understand this is a nice to quote to help with grieving and moving on and make you feel better and I know I am 100% reading too far and thinking too much, but hey that’s what I do so enjoy my rambling and leave your thoughts below.

To start, I am not a religious person. When I die, I get buried or cremated and then that’s it. But I’ve also always thought that when my animals have died, they find each other again in some other dimension. It’s a thought that has always brought me some ounce of comfort because honestly I would want them to have a second chance somewhere else in whatever dimension of the universe.

Now onto the quote again and why it’s really stuck with me. When I lost Calamity in August last year, it obviously wrecked me because it was so tragic and unexpected and she was only 8 and all that. It was also not THAT long after losing Kai, who was my first dog as an adult and gave me just shy of 14 amazing years.

I didn’t think I’d be ready for another dog for a while and planned to just enjoy my 3 wonderful kiddos I already had at home. Then in October we were contacted about Alkaline and her siblings. I saw her face and something in me knew she was my dog. When we were getting more info about them, I said to everyone that if their birthday was the same day I lost Calamity that I wouldn’t be able to do it because I just wouldn’t be able to make that day into a happy day and it wouldn’t be fair to the puppy. Her birthday is 3 days after I lost Calamity.

Now that I’ve had Alkaline in my life for a while, there are so many qualities I see in her from both Kai and Calamity. Could that just be breed similarities? Sure could. Could it be me really just reaching and saying they’re similar? Sure could. Calamity and Kai were not very similar themselves, but I can see pieces of both of them in Alkaline.

I don’t even know how to end this giant ramble of text and thoughts.

Do you believe when a dog passes they send you another?

(Keep this conversation kind, do not push religion, just discuss please)

“If I feel like this then there must be others, making grief look like sunshine when it feels like thunder”

That resonated with me so much. I still can’t believe how much I miss her and how much the emotions still just randomly hit.

Hug your dogs, do the fun things, do the routine things, even when you’re tired and don’t want to. You never know when it could be the last walk, the last tug session, the last time you pick up the bowl.

She is just the prettiest girl.

We got to practice some baby dog agility today in a new place. I wasn’t sure how she would do being somewhere different with different equipment, but she rocked it!

We also got to put our Wild at Heart set to good use!

I can’t believe Keller is 13 now. Where has the time gone?!

Also is that cake not the cutest?! Huge thanks to Basset & Lab! We’ll definitely be frequent flyers there!
