Our city shelter's urgent plea for a bonded pair of senior dogs immediately caught our attention. Bonded pairs are among the toughest rescue pulls, especially when both dogs are older and facing medical concerns.
When we saw Cocoa and Champ's story, Philadoptables immediately committed $500 toward their medical care to help get them safely out of the shelter and into rescue. City of Elderly Love mobilized and pulled the confused pair into their loving arms.
After losing their home in a devastating house fire, these two seniors were rescued together and brought to safety. Cocoa, estimated at around 12 years old, and Champ, estimated at around 7, may be mother and son, though that has never been confirmed. What is clear is how deeply they love one another.
When Cocoa arrived, she was unable to walk and seemed exhausted. But the moment she was reunited with Champ, she sat up and ate her dinner. Being beside him seemed to restore her spirit. And Champ, after finishing his own meal, immediately checked to see if Cocoa had left any leftovers behind.
Today, this sweet senior duo is settling into foster care, where their personalities are shining. Champ is a lovable, goofy boy who lives for treats, while Cocoa is calm, gentle, and perfectly content to let Champ be Champ.
Most importantly, they are together.
