🩸❤️ Meet Gunther, AKA “Stick Boi” ❤️🩸
Every blood donor has their thing. Some love treats. Some love belly rubs. Gunther? Well... Gunther loves sticks. 🌳🐾
This handsome boy recently came in for a blood donation, helping save the lives of other pets in need. Over the past year, we’ve gotten to know him pretty well, and one thing is certain: if there’s a stick nearby, Gunther is going to find it.
In fact, knowing how much he loves them, one of our team members went outside before his donation and found the perfect branch to have waiting as a surprise reward afterward. The result? Pure joy. 😍
After his donation, Gunther proudly paraded his prized stick around the exam room before heading home to continue showing off his treasure.
While blood donation is incredibly important, it’s the relationships we build with our donors that make it so special. We learn their favorite treats, their quirks, their fears, and yes, even their stick preferences. We do everything we can to make each donation visit a positive experience because these amazing pets are true heroes.

☀️ Summer Bummer, Chapito! ☀️

Three-month-old Chapito was all set for beach season in his adorable sun hat... but instead of catching waves, he caught a case of the tummy grumbles.

This little Frenchie came in after a few days of diarrhea, some surprise vomiting (including apple skins 🍎), and deciding breakfast was definitely not on the agenda.

The good news? His Parvo test was negative! After an exam, fluids, anti-nausea medication, and lots of TLC, Chapito headed home to rest and recover while his family keeps a close eye on him.

Our top differential? A puppy-sized appetite for eating things he probably shouldn't.

We're hoping this handsome beach bum is back to chasing summer adventures, and not mystery snacks, very soon! 💚🧡

👁️ Meet Crouton: He gives main character energy as a part-time pirate cat, full time ham and, unfortunately, a frequent flyer for urinary crystals. 🏴‍☠️🐱

Crouton came to see us after making frequent trips to the litter box with little to no urine production, a major red flag in male cats. His family noticed he was uncomfortable, straining, and acting painful at home.

This isn’t Crouton’s first battle with urinary disease. He has a history of FLUTD (Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease) and previously experienced a urinary obstruction earlier this year. Even with a prescription urinary diet, added canned food, and extra hydration support, urinary crystals can still sometimes form and create dangerous blockages.

After sedation and placement of a urinary catheter, we were able to relieve the obstruction and keep Crouton comfortable during hospitalization. Over the next few days, he supervised the staff with his usual dramatic personality while receiving pain medications, monitoring, and supportive care before transfer for a PU surgery consultation.

Male cats have a very narrow urethra, which can become blocked by crystals, mucus, inflammation, or debris. Once blocked, they cannot properly empty their bladder, causing toxins and potassium to build up in the body. Without treatment, this condition can quickly become fatal.

🚩🚩Signs your cat may be blocked:
• Straining in the litter box
• Frequent litter box visits
• Crying while trying to urinate
• Small amounts of urine or no urine at all
• Hiding or acting painful
• Vomiting or lethargy

Bitsy kitty, big trouble! 💚🧡

Meet Bitsy, a 2-year-old Oriental Shorthair who came to see us after vomiting blood. After some diagnostics, we discovered there was foreign material hiding in her stomach… and surgery revealed the culprit: several hair ties!

Apparently Bitsy has been known to “sample” hair ties from time to time, and this time they didn’t agree with her!

Our team performed surgery to remove the hair ties, and we’re happy to report she recovered beautifully. 💕 She enjoyed plenty of Churu treats during her stay and was all purrs and talking before heading home today.

Friendly reminder for pet parents:
Pets can be attracted to small household items like hair ties, string, ribbon, rubber bands, and even socks! Unfortunately, swallowing these objects can lead to dangerous intestinal blockages and may require emergency surgery.

Keeping tempting items out of reach is one of the best ways to keep curious kitties safe!

Today we’re celebrating a very special (and slightly dramatic ) hero, Watson the Great Dane!

Watson is retiring from our blood donor program as his family prepares for a big move, and while we’re so excited for his next adventure, we’ll definitely miss this gentle giant.

Don’t let his size fool you, Watson is truly a delicate flower. But behind that sensitive soul is a lifesaver who has helped so many others through his donations. That makes him a true hero in our book. ❤️

To celebrate, Watson enjoyed some very large toys (which his housemate is already plotting to steal 😅) and a cake that he approached with… let’s just say extreme suspicion.

Thank you, Watson, for your generosity, your personality, and for being such a wonderful part of our program. We wish you all the best in your new adventure — keep being fabulous, you big, brave sweetheart. 🐾
