As wildfires continue across Oregon, It's important to remember that smoke and extreme heat can affect our animals just as much as it can affect us.
Please take a moment to read and share this important information from the Oregon Veterinary Board. Together, we can help keep ourselves and animals safe.

Unfortunately, there are several wildfires burning in Oregon. Here are some suggestions on monitoring your animals for wildfire smoke irritation. Animals that have cardiovascular or respiratory disease are at increased risk during periods of poor air quality and should be watched closely. If you have concerns about your animal's health, please consult your veterinarian.

We are so excited to announce that our new addition at Crooked Tails Veterinary Clinic is complete!

Starting Monday, July 20th, we will officially be welcoming our clients into our brand-new lobby and waiting room! All client check-ins and visits will begin through our new entrance.

This beautiful addition was designed with you and your pets in mind. The expanded space will help us better serve our community, create a more comfortable experience for you and your four-legged family members, and give us room to continue growing alongside the families who trust us with your pets' care.

We're quickly approaching the 4th of July holiday.

As you celebrate with family and friends, don't forget that fireworks can be a source of stress and anxiety for our pets.

Here are a few ways to help keep your furry family members comfortable and safe:
* Keep pets indoors in a secure, quiet area of your home
* Close curtains and blinds to reduce flashes from fireworks
* Leave the TV or music on to help mask loud noises
* Make sure your pet's ID tags and microchip information are up to date
* Provide a favorite toy, blanket, or safe space where they can relax

If your pet experiences anxiety during fireworks, please contact our office before the holiday. We can discuss medications or other options to help keep them calm and comfortable.

Friendly Reminder: Keep Ma*****na Products Safely Out of Reach of Your Pet's!

Recently, we've seen an increase in pets needing emergency care after ingesting ma*****na products. Whether it's dried flower, edibles, gummies, or v**e cartridges, even a small amount can make your pet very sick.

Ma*****na is toxic to cats and dogs. Animals process many compounds differently than humans do, and as a result, substances that may be tolerated by people can cause serious illness in our pets.

Signs of ma*****na toxicity in pets may include:
• Anxious panting or agitation
• Stumbling or difficulty walking
• Extreme sleepiness or lethargy
• Vomiting
• Urinary accidents
• Tremors or shaking
• Increased sensitivity to sounds or touch
• Disorientation or appearing "out of it"
• In severe cases, seizures or coma

Please store all cannabis products securely and treat them just like you would any medication. We all know how clever our pets can be and how quickly they can find something they shouldn't! Taking a few extra precautions to keep cannabis products safely stored can help prevent an unexpected trip to the emergency room. Edibles are especially dangerous because they often contain chocolate, xylitol, or other ingredients that are toxic to pets.
