MCAS is EXTREMELY low on dry adult dog food (for all sizes/breeds). Any donations would be immensely appreciated. We even accept opened bags if you have some at home that your pup doesn't like! 💚

☀️ Dog Days of Summer ☀️

It's that time of year when Summer is winding down and everyone is prepping for the transition to fall, but the heat isn't over yet. Summer temperatures can stick around well into September, and for our pets, a hot day can become dangerous much faster than people realize. Watch for signs of overheating like excessive or heavy panting, drooling more than usual, weakness or stumbling, vomiting/diarrhea, abnormal color/appearance of gums, confusion, and collapsing.

If it's too hot for us, it's probably too hot for our pets. Keep fresh, cool water available and make sure pets have access to things like shade and air conditioning. Never leave an animal unattended in a parked vehicle, even with the windows cracked. And don't forget about the pavement—asphalt and concrete can become hot enough to burn paw pads. When possible, stick to grass or walk during the cooler parts of the morning or evening.

Summer isn't over just because the calendar says fall is coming. Keep those tails cool, hydrated, and safe! 🫶🏼

An Update on Marshall 🤍

As many of you know, we had an amazing Dalmatian puppy, Marshall, in our care at Mercer County Animal Shelter who needed to have a back leg removed. He had a tibia fracture and necrosis of the femoral head and neck, and amputation was required to ensure our sweet boy could grow up to lead a normal, happy life.

We’re thrilled to announce that Marshall’s surgery went smoothly, and he’s healing very well. A phenomenal rescue had seen previous posts about Marshall and contacted us, and they had a place for him to go as soon as he was released from the hospital.

We want to give the biggest thanks to Wythe County Animal Clinic for taking great care of Marshall, and Save the Dalmatians and Others Canine Rescue for making sure our sweet boy had a great place to go once he was discharged.

We often say that it takes a village to do what we do, and Marshall’s journey exemplifies this very concept. Thank you again to everyone who had or still has a hand in taking care of our boy and getting his story out there. We wish you the very best this world has to offer, Marshall! Happy Tails to you. 🥹

Hi, everyone! We wanted to give a quick update on the pup that was shot in the neck recently.

Staff have named him Boomer, and we’re pleased to announce that he is doing great. While the bullet went completely through, he had buckshot all in his body. This likely wasn’t the first time he’s been shot.
Boomer’s healing well, and he’s in good spirits. While he’s not currently available for adoption, we wanted everyone to know that he is safe, healing, and happy—or at least, as happy as one can be considering the things he’s been through.

🐾 Adoption Success Story of the Day 🐾

"This is Smokey, formerly Oscar. He is so gentle and patient, and loves our kitties with his whole heart! We adopted him on 7.22.26, after just expecting to look and see what we could find! He has barked a total of three barks, and that’s it! He loves his rope toy, but prefers strips of cardboard any day! He’s eager to go on many walks, and so are we! He’s truly the best boy. Thank you, MCAS❤️"
