This is one of the hardest parts of grooming. This sweet boy came in so severely matted that the coat I shaved off of him weighed almost a pound. A POUND. There were moments I truly didn’t know if I was going to be able to safely get some of the matting off because it was so solid and tight against his skin.
Matting is not just “a little tangled.” It pulls on the skin constantly, causes pain with every movement, traps moisture and bacteria, bruises skin, restricts circulation, and can even hide injuries or infections underneath. It is hard on the dog, hard on my equipment, and honestly hard on my heart.
He was the sweetest boy through all of it and trusted me to help him feel better, but no dog should have to live like this. Pets are a privilege, not a right. And when choosing a breed that requires regular grooming, it’s important to understand that those grooming needs last for the dog’s entire life — not just when it’s convenient.
There are so many amazing breeds out there that require little to no professional grooming. Please be mindful when choosing a puppy and honest about the level of maintenance you can realistically keep up with. Our pets depend on us for every aspect of their care. ❤️

As a dog groomer in Wisconsin, one thing I wish more people understood is just how IMPORTANT flea & tick prevention really is. 🐾 I have pulled 8 live ticks off of 2 dogs in the last two days 🤮

Ticks here are no joke — and neither are the diseases they carry. Lyme disease, ehrlichiosis, anaplasmosis… all things I’ve seen affect dogs that are deeply loved and cared for. And fleas? Once they get into your home, your car, your furniture, your yard, and your grooming salon visits… they become a nightmare for everyone involved.
I know prevention can feel expensive sometimes, but treatment is usually much more expensive — financially and physically for your dog. Flea/tick meds aren’t just a “summer thing” either. Wisconsin weather can be unpredictable, and ticks can survive way longer into the colder months than people think.
From a groomer’s perspective, nothing breaks my heart more than seeing dogs miserable from itching, hot spots, flea dirt, skin infections, or embedded ticks that could’ve been prevented.
Please protect your pups. Talk to your vet about what prevention is best for your dog, stay consistent with it, and check your dogs regularly — especially after hikes, camping, farm visits, or even just playing in the yard.
Your groomer, your vet, and most importantly your dog will thank you. ❤️🐶

Meet Hush🐾🤫

My husband has a soft spot for two things—me, and animals that need a little extra love, and he simply couldn’t say no to me bringing home this sweet puppy, who hears with his heart! (Yep, he’s deaf!)
We surprised the kids, and of course… they are completely in love already 🥹
Over the last two weeks with him, We jumped right into teaching him ASL signs for his commands, and honestly… he’s showing us up.
Total rockstar. Potty and crate training are going way better than expected too! 🤞🏻

Hush may experience the world a little differently, but that doesn’t slow him down one bit!! Sometimes the ones who need a little extra love end up giving the most in return💙
