We are at 101 bags of shoes so far!

Each bag has 25 pairs of shoes! That's a lot of shoes!

We are still collecting shoes so if you have been meaning to drop some off now is the time. We have multiple drop off locations or they can be left at our shelter anytime. Drop off locations are Tender Care Animal Hospital, Southwest Vet in PDC, Tractor Supply in PDC, Nelson Ace Hardware in PDC, PDC Flooring, Royal Bank in PDC, and Pocket City Pub in McGregor.

We are collecting until the end of May.! We can take any style of shoe (boots, athletic, flip flops, sandals, dress, women's, men's, kids) as long as they are clean, and still in good condition. We cannot take shoes that are falling apart. These shoes will be picked up by a company called Funds2Orgs, and after they pick them up they will distribute them to Third World Countries. They pay us per pound of shoes that we collect and bag up.

Update on Calvin's surgery!

Calvin's surgery is scheduled for May 20th and the money we needed to raise specifically for his surgery (~$1000) has been fully covered by everyone's generous donations!

Calvin leaves for Kates Kanines on May 2nd. He will be staying with Kate for his recovery and while there he will also receive some training on some his quirks. We can't wait to receive updates on his training progress! Thanks to even more generous donations we are estimating around another $500 - $1000 of his recovery has been covered.

Our Treasurer had to go out of town and will be back sometime this week. Once they are back we can give a more accurate amount raised.

Thank you to everyone that has donated to help better Calvin's life!

Hi friends—it's me, Calvin. I’m still here at the shelter, and I wanted to share what’s been going on with me. My doctor says I have a torn ACL (technically called a Cranial Cruciate Ligament). In simple terms, it means the ligament that helps keep my knee stable is torn, and it really hurts.

The kind team at Rivers and Bluffs Animal Shelter can do the surgery I need, and I’m so grateful for them. The hard part is what comes after: I need a very strict 10-week recovery—quiet, calm, and carefully supervised—so my knee can heal the right way.

Like many small shelters, Rivers and Bluffs Animal Shelter survives on donations alone. Every gift goes straight back to animals like me—food, warm beds, and the everyday care that keeps us safe. But this surgery wasn’t something anyone could plan for, and it’s a big, unexpected expense. We can’t do it without the kindness of people who are willing to help when it matters most.

A shelter is full of love, but it’s also busy and noisy, and I won’t be able to get the rest I need here. There’s a wonderful place ready to take care of me for those 10 weeks, but it does come with a cost.

So I’m asking—if you’re able—would you consider donating to help cover my recovery care so I can have this surgery and heal safely? We need to raise $3,600 to cover the cost of my surgery and recovery. We have over 8,000 followers, and if even a fraction of my friends gave $1, it would make a huge difference for me.

Donations can be mailed to the shelter address, 460 Cliffwood Dr., Prairie du Chien, Wi. 53821. They can also be made online by going to this link and leaving a memo note "Calvin's surgery": https://www.paypal.com/donate/?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=QWLSNQPEKS2AA&source=url&ssrt=1776963841743

Beautiful Snowy is ready to find a new home!

Snowy is a 9-year-old sweetheart who recently came into our care when her owner could no longer keep her. With her striking ice-blue eyes and beautiful Siamese/Calico coloring, she’s as unique as she is lovely. Don’t let her age fool you. Snowy still has a playful, curious side and enjoys exploring her surroundings just as much as she loves soaking up attention from her favorite people. She’s a social girl who truly appreciates gentle affection and companionship. Snowy has previously lived with other calm, older cats and did well with them, and she’s also been comfortable around respectful, quieter children. With proper introductions, we believe she could settle nicely into a variety of home environments.

If interested in adopting Snowy please fill out an application online by going to this link: https://new.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/RAB/Cat

Happy Earth Day!

This year, celebrate by giving back to the planet and your community! We’re collecting gently used shoes as a fundraiser with Funds2Orgs. This a great way to keep your old shoes out of landfills and putting them to good use. Till the end of May we can take any style of shoe (boots, athletic, flip flops, sandals, dress, women's, men's, kids) as long as they are clean, and still in good condition. We cannot take shoes that are falling apart. These shoes will be picked up by Funds2Orgs, and after they pick them up they will distribute them to Third World Countries. They pay us per pound of shoes that we collect and bag up. Every pair makes a difference, so check your closets and donate what you can!

Shoes can be dropped off at our shelter anytime, or at the following locations: Tender Care Animal Hospital, Southwest Vet in PDC, Tractor Supply in PDC, Nelson Ace Hardware in PDC, PDC Flooring, Royal Bank in PDC, and Pocket City Pub in McGregor.

This week is National Volunteer Appreciate Week, and we want to give a big shout out to all of the Rivers and Bluffs volunteers!

Everything that these volunteers do while at the shelter, at a fundraiser, or doing other miscellaneous tasks helps the shelter. From walking dogs, to sorting cans. Cuddling puppies, and cats to walking in a parade or helping at a bake sale. From laundry, and dishes to helping with our annual shoe drive. Taking the dogs on car rides around town, and to adoption events. There is so much that is done behind the scenes as well like grant writing, handling finances, fostering kittens and puppies, and helping with vet appointments to just name a few things. All of this is greatly appreciated, and they do it all out of love for animals! Animal shelters could not function without volunteers!

If you are interested in volunteering fill out a volunteer form today by going to this link: https://docs.google.com/forms/u/0/d/e/1FAIpQLSesP_-0NFBuXTAE1AOWg2afV7HGVSGo_cGeaO2_o6uLU4aA2w/viewform?pli=1&authuser=0
