We invite you to celebrate and reflect on Juneteenth here at the farm with a free community lunch and film screening! This event is FREE, but we do request that you register through farmproject.org/juneteenth! Join us for:

12 pm - Farm tour
12:30 - 1 pm - Community Harvest (pea shoots!!!)
12:30 pm - Community Lunch
2 pm - Movie Screening "Arc of Justice"

"Arc of Justice" traces the remarkable journey of New Communities, Inc. and the struggle for racial justice and economic empowerment in southwest Georgia.

NCI was created in 1969 in Albany, Georgia by leaders of the Civil Rights Movement, including Congressman John Lewis, and Charles and Shirley Sherrod, to help secure economic independence for African American families. For 15 years, NCI cooperatively farmed nearly 6,000 acres, the largest tract of land in the United States owned by African Americans at the time, but racist opposition prevented them from implementing plans to build 500 affordable homes as part of their community land trust.

Unable to secure government loans to cope with the impact of successive years of drought, NCI lost the land to foreclosure in 1985. But 25 years later it was given new life as a result of a successful class action lawsuit brought by hundreds of African American farmers against the U.S. Department of Agriculture for loan discrimination. With the settlement, the original founders purchased a 1,600-acre plantation once owned by the largest slave owner and richest man in Georgia. NCI is now growing pecans and using the antebellum mansion on the property as a retreat and training center, still committed to its original mission of promoting racial justice and economic development.

We can’t wait to see all 500 households of our 2026 CSA membership this week! First pick ups for those with a membership are Saturday 9-12 and Tuesday 2:30-6 with special pick your own details available in the weekly CSA newsletter.

As of last week we sold out of our June-November CSA shares. Still want to get PFP Veggies? Then sign up for the 2026 Fall Share from Sept-Nov on the store. These 10 week shares a great variety of fall crops and start out with the weekly pick your own until the frosts hit.

The PK Farm Project has partnered with the Dutchess County Department of Health and students from the Culinary Institute of America to launch the second session of Dutchess Youth Kitchen with Poughkeepsie Middle School students. This 4-week nutrition and culinary series is designed to teach middle schoolers basic cooking techniques, knife skills, and nutrition education in a hands-on, fun way!

Featured recipes this session include quick pickles using a variety of vegetables, Chipotle-inspired burrito bowls made completely from scratch, and Thai curry, all culminating in an exciting Iron Chef competition! Help us pick this session's mystery ingredient for Iron Chef. Comment with your vote!
