The new shed for the farm stand finally arrived today! I’m excited to get it set up and organized, but apparently the delivery driver had other plans and dropped it right in the walkway. 😅

At the same time, my flour and sugar delivery showed up with the box torn open, and the nesting bars arrived torn open too. All from the same driver. Picked up -but the shed? It’s not moving

My husband is at work dinner, the teens are sleeping, and my oldest won’t be home from work until later, so the shed isn’t moving anytime soon.

For now, I’m just staring at it from a distance while keeping an eye on all the deliveries before Kevin the squirrel decides they belong to him. 🐿️

Some days are productive.
Some days delivers you a giant obstacle course. 😂

This is Hermes, a Chinese Water Dragon. He's one of my favorite and most beloved pets. These guys, once very common in the States, have become all but impossible to find due to some bureaucrats deciding they could no longer be imported in 2023.

Once common in the pet trade as they're vastly overpopulated in nature, you can now only find them from stateside breeders, which is very rare.

I randomly found this dude at a small, local reptile show, hidden behind a vendor's main display, out of sight. Seems he was bought by a customer years ago, and then returned to the vendor when the owner could no longer take care of him.

Being that I had a Chinese Water Dragon many years ago, I knew exactly how to care for them and was more than happy to take him off of the vendor's hands. He came to us with a mild case of MBD, which is a severe calcium deficiency that can cause permanent bone deformities. You can see this in the misalignment of Hermes' jaw.

This guy is sweet, funny, and naughty. He's a natural escape artist who can dash away at a moment's notice if you're not paying attention. Some days, though, he'll sit with me all day as I work from home and never move. He likes to be pet and loves to swim even more.

🌱 Garden Adventures, Day 9,437 🌱

My neighbor gave me a poppy plant, and since I absolutely LOVE poppy seeds, it immediately earned a spot in the garden.

I even marked it well so my husband can’t claim he “didn’t see it” later. 😂

Meanwhile, I spent part of the day replanting corn and sunflowers that had already been stomped down. Apparently some garden visitors felt my seedlings were optional.

So if you’re keeping score:

✅ Sunflowers replanted
❌ Garden chaos eliminated

🌱 Asparagus Update! 🌱

Two years ago we planted asparagus and have been patiently playing the long game. We got spears this spring, but instead of harvesting them, we let them grow into ferns to help strengthen the crowns for future harvests.

Today I expanded the bed to give them a little more room to spread out and thrive. It may not look like much now, but every one of those feathery green fronds is helping build next year’s harvest underground.

Gardening is a good reminder that not everything is about instant results. Sometimes the best thing you can do is be patient and let things grow. 💚

Here’s hoping all that patience turns into an abundance of asparagus next spring! 🌱✨

Pretzel Test Batch Report 🥨

Today’s mission: homemade sourdough hard pretzel sticks.

The dough fought me.
The pretzel sticks tried to rip.
I questioned my life choices at least twice.

But after a baking soda bath, a trip through the oven, and a lot of taste testing, I’d call the first batch a success! They’re crunchy, salty, and definitely pass the “grab one every time you walk through the kitchen” test.

A few tweaks for the next batch, but not bad for a trial run.

Now the real question is… should I make another batch tomorrow, or save myself from eating my body weight in pretzels? 🤔🥨🤣

Our latest homemade dog treat has arrived — Carrot Dog Bones!

We weren’t sure what the official taste tester would think. After all, Arlo isn’t exactly known for loving his vegetables. 😆

But to our surprise, he gave these carrot treats two paws up and came back looking for more!
