Was at this morning but had NO internet access.

Thanks to all the customers who switched to Venmo when my Square cardreader couldn't work! Appreciate everyone's flexibility.

Meanwhile, check out my Instagram Stories for what I missed because no Internet access. I would just like to say that I have THE BEST staff and volunteers and there is no way this farm could have come so far without their sustained efforts.

Ground cherries: Not only do we have them, but it's an EXCELLENT year for them!

We grow 'Drott's Yellow' which has traditionally been smaller, but sweeter than the standard (which my PA Dutch grandfather grew) 'Aunt Molly.'

This year, the 'Drott's Yellow' are as large as the 'Aunt Molly' and sweeter than any batch I've ever grown. No Solanaceae aftertaste!

Whatever we did, we need to do the same next year!

Meanwhile, here's volunteer Barb's kneepads that got a good workout chasing under the plants for that full bucket of lovely fruit!

From the Vault as part of the RENEW program (experienced growers receive seed to grow out, review and return seed with recommendations):

'Grandpa's Cock's Plume' Tomato.

From the Altai Mountains of Siberia, Bill McDorman recieved this seed in 1989 from his translator's grandfather.

75 DTM, oxheart, pink/red, indeterminate

Like most oxhearts, benefits from a touch of flame (Broiled on flatbread for lunch. Excellent!)

Questions about this tomato? Just ask! Have to base my review on something!😉

Here until noon! Stop by to say "Hi" and load up on heirloom tomatoes, garlic and ground cherries!

I have been harvesting tenerumi for about 7 years. (An Italian-heritage chef asked if I would chop off the first foot of my beloved Long Island Cheese Squash vines. My immediate reaction was "No!!!" Then I thought about it and it's been a mainstay of our weekly produce list ever since)

Today, I was asked to harvest just the leaves, without the vines, from the tips of the Long Island Cheese Squash vines (vines are too fibrous for what this chef wants to achieve). Looks like the first 4 leaves from each vine will work for this project. I am looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

Specialty produce puts you through your paces, but overall, working with creative people to achieve something interesting is a total blast!

Have an idea about what produce can do? Talk to me! We will figure it out.

Second (and better looking) plant of Hill Creek Farm's 'Firecracker Pink' zinnia.

'Firecracker Orange' is the sport that got this breeding program started. I obviously need to study up on zinnia genetics because my best-looking "rejects" are all pink!

Soooo many good looking PINK flowers popping up in a sea of Orange. Why is this happening??? (Do tell me if you know!)

Should sit down with an AI-disabled search engine and figure this out, but it's Tomato Season and we have more beefsteak tomatoes than 'Firecracker Orange' and 'Firecracker Pink' flowers put together (and they taste a whole lot better than zinnias! 😉) so check out my Stories for what people are doing with our tomatoes and message me for purchase if you're inspired!

corn husks, and more importantly, corn cobs, given to the poultry of Hill Creek Farm.

Nothing is better than grain to a chicken!

Now that John Alff is expanding into fresh juices, the chickens are also getting a steady diet of fruit and vegetable pulp and trimmings.

Fruits and vegetables are good for chickens as well as humans! Their health is better and the eggs taste great with a full range of nutrients.

Thanks, John, for helping keep our chickens healthy and happy!
