Update: My schedule was filled very quickly for this weekend, and I cannot be more appreciative of the wonderful clients and members of our community who stepped in to help.

Thanksgiving Pet Safety Tips from Fido & Felix 🦃🐶🐱

Thanksgiving is a time for family, food, and gratitude, and our furry friends are definitely part of the family! To ensure everyone has a safe and happy holiday, here are some important tips from the team at Fido & Felix.

Watch the Feast! While it's tempting to share your delicious Thanksgiving meal, many human foods can be harmful to pets. Bones (especially cooked ones) can splinter, and ingredients like onions, garlic, grapes, and xylitol (found in some sugar-free items) are toxic. Even fatty foods can cause pancreatitis. Stick to pet-safe treats!

Secure the Trash: Turkey carcasses, bones, and food scraps can be very appealing to curious noses. Make sure your trash cans are securely covered or placed out of reach to prevent your pet from raiding them.

Quiet Space: Holiday gatherings can be overwhelming for some pets. Consider setting up a quiet, comfortable space in another room where your pet can retreat if they feel stressed or anxious. This is especially helpful for shy dogs or cats.

Decorations Beware: Keep an eye on festive decorations. Candles, electrical cords, and certain plants (like lilies, which are highly toxic to cats) can pose risks. Ribbons and small ornaments can also be tempting to chew on or swallow.

Mind the Doors: With guests coming and going, there's a higher chance a pet might slip out unnoticed. Remind family and friends to be mindful of open doors and ensure your pet has up-to-date ID tags or a microchip, just in case.

Exercise is Key: A well-exercised pet is a happy and calmer pet! Make sure your dog gets their usual walks or playtime before guests arrive to help them burn off energy.
