‼️NOKHS SUPPORTERS, WE NEED YOUR HELP TODAY‼️

At 1:59 a.m. this morning, someone pulled into the Northern Oklahoma Humane Society parking lot, carried a tote containing multiple puppies to our front door, and drove away.

Security footage shows puppies escaping the tote and running loose around the property shortly after they were abandoned. When staff arrived at approximately 8:00 a.m., 10 puppies were recovered and brought to safety. Because puppies were already loose before staff arrived, we cannot say with certainty how many may have originally been left. Our shelter is located near a roadway and surrounded by wildlife, making this an extremely dangerous situation for animals that were completely unattended for nearly six hours.

These puppies are covered in fleas, have no known medical history, and must now be quarantined and monitored before they can safely enter our adoption program. A police report has been filed, and we will cooperate fully with law enforcement regarding this incident. Animal abandonment is against the law, but more importantly, it puts animals at risk and places additional strain on already limited shelter resources.

This is also a reminder that pet overpopulation is not a shelter problem, it is a community problem. If your pets are not spayed or neutered, preventing unwanted litters is your responsibility. For years, we have worked to provide free and low-cost spay/neuter services, yet unwanted litters continue to arrive while shelters across Oklahoma operate at or beyond capacity. These puppies did not ask to be born, and they deserve better than being left outside a building in the middle of the night.

Today, we are asking for your help. These puppies will require food, flea treatment, vaccinations, housing, and ongoing medical care before they are ready for adoption. If you would like to support their care, please consider making a donation. We will do everything we can for them, but creating a more humane community requires all of us.

If you've been following Bella's story, you might remember when she thought every walk was the start of a NASCAR race.

These days, she's showing off a different side of herself. Bella has been walking nicely, staying calm around other dogs, and earning plenty of compliments for how well she's doing out and about. She still enjoys her yard time, belly rubs, and rolling around in the grass like she's on vacation.

She's affectionate, loves being with her people, and has come a long way since arriving at the shelter in January. Now all she needs is someone to give her a chance to show off these new skills at home.

Bella's been doing the work. We'd love to see her finally get the reward.

SINGLE MALE SEEKING:

Someone who appreciates long walks, car rides, and being gently reminded when it's time for dinner.

About me: I'm 2½ years old, 76 pounds, and a member of the Lonely Hearts Club. I walk great on a leash, love being around my people, and can be in your vehicle before you've fully opened the door.

My hobbies include zoomies, hanging out with humans, and carrying my food bowl around in case anyone has forgotten an important meal.

Looking for: Someone who doesn't mind a little enthusiasm, enjoys having a loyal sidekick, and understands that every dog needs a little time to settle into a new home.

Not looking for: A life spent waiting at the shelter.

If you're searching for a dog with personality, good manners on a leash, and a great sense of timing when food is involved, we should probably meet.

Casper has one of those faces that always looks like he’s having the best day ever.

He is 61 lbs and is about 1 1/2 years old so he’s past the puppy chaos but still young enough for plenty of adventures. He enjoys walks, loves attention, and is always happy to be included in whatever is going on.

Recently, Casper got a break from the shelter and showed everyone what a great sidekick he can be. He rode well in the car, enjoyed exploring a new place, and spent the whole outing happy, curious, and excited to check things out.

He’d love a home where he can be part of the action, whether that’s a walk around the neighborhood, a weekend errand, or relaxing with his people at the end of the day. Like most dogs, Casper will need a little time to settle in and learn the routine of a new home.

Casper is also a member of our Lonely Hearts Club, which means his adoption fee is reduced and he’s been waiting longer than he should for someone to notice him.

Maybe that someone is you.
