Since 2004, today is recognized as National Dog Day. It celebrates all breeds—purebreds and mixed-breed mutts alike—while advocating for shelter animals and ending animal abuse.

Today only you can get a free pup cup from Dunkin or puppuccino from Starbucks with your dog. Certain Sonics and Chik-Fil-A restaurants also offer similar freebies to celebrate the day 💞 Hell - you can even make one at home as well! Either way, don't forget to celebrate with your pups 🥰

So Glenn talked me into washing some dogs today given the weather - 4 to be exact! Doing half of them or so is better than none & they're so soft now while smelling like lavender. Isn't that what everyone does on a nice Sunday afternoon? 🤣

Something I think about more and more since Lou's cancer diagnosis. All but 2 of the dogs here are senior so I find myself watching everyone more closely, when I should be thinking of things from their point of view...

So Allie had a followup appt at the vet to check her liver values to see if they've improved at all.
When she last went in June her ALT was 841 & her ALP was 754. A good range should be ALT no more than 125 and ALP no more than 150 (hence my worry).
We used the leftover hepatic food we had from our Brie until it ran out and we've been keeping her on Denamarin Advanced since her first test.
Yesterday her ALT was 56 and ALP was 30...Go Allie! The vet was so surprised by her progress even SHE was impressed.

We received a bag of food today from Chewy but we have no idea who to thank. There was no note included and the site didn't lead anywhere on that front. So Thank You for keeping bellies full here 🥰

LOU:

Well, we went out to his Specialist in PA for him to do a recheck on his surgical site The good news is that he's healing nicely. The bad news is that the growth was an oral malignant melanoma -- cancer. The vet said that with his mouth being so small, all he could do was get as much as he could but the margins surrounding it weren't great. There just wasn't enough real estate to stitch together if he had gone out further.
Apparently there's a vaccine out there specifically for this very type of cancer, but it costs about $6k with no guarantees for life extension. If $$$ was no issue, I'd def try it - but that's not the case. While it can/will reappear anywhere, we did have him do a chest xray and that was clear so that's good. And of course I had to ask how long?, and all the vet would say is 'months'.
My heart sank 😔
