Whew, it sure is HOT and HUMID out there! ☀️ 😥 🐶 🐱

According to K-State Veterinarian Susan Nelson:

Pet owners should watch for signs of heat stress, such as excessive panting and drooling, they should protect their pets' paws from hot pavement, and they should never leave their pet inside a parked car, even on mildly warm days, says veterinarian Susan Nelson. Pets should be vaccinated against leptospirosis, caused by leptospira bacteria in standing water. Owners should initiate or begin year-round parasite prevention, and they should be aware of potentially toxic plants and landscaping supplies.

Holy Cow! How busy it’s been!

First of all, thank you all so much for your support and loyalty. We have had to temporarily close our books, and are not taking new grooming clients at this time. This may change in the future just because summer is a very very busy season for us.

I just wanted to make a post really quickly about this specific topic because the summer months are coming and I have had A LOT of questions about it.

We will not shave double coated dogs, the only exception is written consent from a vet due to a medical condition.

It DOES NOT cool your dog off, it does quite the opposite. Their coat reflects sun rays and their undercoat protects them from the heat, just like it does in the winter with the cold. This can cause alopecia, patchy coat, and dead/unhealthy hair.

Deshed treatments and outline trims can help rid of the excessive shedding, and keep their coat healthy to help you out!

Even some mixed breeds like doodles have a double coated and cannot be shaved!

April Is National Heartworm Awareness Month!

Unfortunately we have diagnosed 2 cases of heartworms just this year already. In this area your pets are at a higher risk of contracting them because of the rivers and weather.

These are some common misconceptions surrounding heartworms! We have these conversations everyday in clinic, we will always strive to educate and make owners aware!

Your heartworm test is free with us if you buy 6 or more months of preventative because we want you to have peace of mind that they are negative and to most importantly keep them safe and protected!
