According to K-State Veterinarian Susan Nelson:
Pet owners should watch for signs of heat stress, such as excessive panting and drooling, they should protect their pets' paws from hot pavement, and they should never leave their pet inside a parked car, even on mildly warm days, says veterinarian Susan Nelson. Pets should be vaccinated against leptospirosis, caused by leptospira bacteria in standing water. Owners should initiate or begin year-round parasite prevention, and they should be aware of potentially toxic plants and landscaping supplies.
